What are some good science fair projects for 8th graders?

  • well my science fair is coming up, and i want to get a really cool, unique topic. so if u have any suggestions (what u did when u were in 8th gr., u heard about a really cool one... etc.) that would b great! the only thing is, i would like it to be kind of hands-on like gardening, etc. and one other thing, please do NOT give suggestions about projects that involve plants (i've done something about plants for the past 2 yrs)... thanks!!!(:

    When i was in 8th grade I did a project on how to tell the difference between a boiled and raw egg. It was a unique project and the judges said they have never seen something like I did before, even though it was so simple. The judges also said that my project was one of a few that they actually learned something from. Here's a little hint: Science fair judges are mostly concerned with how well you used the scientific method (especially data collection and research).

Since you are interested in gardening and plants, a different approach would be the creation of a compost pile, like make one with a Plexiglas side you can pull the outer cover away and peek in. Describe the processes necessary for one to begin decomposing organic material, gasses emitted from it, benefits of compost, there are loads of ways you could approach that one, and the most work you will do on it is a bit of research, and creating your backboard. the compost, if set up correctly pretty much works itself. Don't forget to take photos about once a week to show your transformation inside.
