I am torn as to which high school to attend?

So there is this Magnet High School in my area that has a great education system with different magnets (like a major) and a wonderful music program, as far as concert band goes, and is really where I think my creativity as a writer/musician could flourish. It's just, the local high school, a traditional school, not magnet but still impressive, is where most of my friends go to. I never thought I'd want to go there with the Magnet school firm in my head, but now as I go into 8th grade while participating in the local high school's marching band, I find myself torn as to which high school to attend. The local high school has such great people and a great marching band program, not to mention nearly everyone in my family has been/worked there. That school is in my roots, but I want to get the best education I can. Should I go to the school I've been destined to go to from birth with such a great atmosphere (and better marching band) or try to better myself at the Magnet School?

Well, if you are destined to be absolutely fabulous with your career and you know what you want to do in life then go with the Magnet school. But if you want to enjoy more leisure time with your friends and family then go to the other school. If you go to the Magnet school for a year and decide you don't like it you can stitch back at the Semester. I went to the high school where I enjoyed the people and the atmosphere. I could have gone to the high-strung school with the snobby people and the drones, but I wanted more of a free environment with friends and freedom. If you have your hopes set on a big fancy college then go to Magnet for a while. If not, and if you really don't know where to go, then go to the other School because as long as you do well you can go anywhere in your future, really. But if you go to Magnet and you don't like it then switch out to the other one. Just as long as you're happy, that's all that really matters. Go wherever you will be happiest. It sounds to me that you will do well anywhere you go. I was in Marching Band too- Clarinet Section Leader 4 years in a row- lettered all 4 years. it's great isn't it? I miss it- but most colleges don't have a marching band lol. Peace

I went through the same thing. I had the option before my freshman year to transfer to the "traditional" school that everyone in my family had gone and almost all my friends were going to. The school I was zoned to was a better, safer school and I ended up staying put and going there. It ended up being a decent high school experience, but I still wish at times I had gone to the other one... My advice to you would be to go to the local school. Given everything you said about it, you can't go wrong. If you really feel you'd get more out of the magnet school, then go for it. But I know that I lost a lost of good friends because of my not going to the traditional school. Whatever you decide, just stick with it and make the best of where you end up, because it flies by and the next thing you know it's over.

I think you should go to the school that offers the better education, it sounds like you will do well wherever you go.

I would pick the Magnet school, but it's your decision.

Wow I see how it is hard to make a decision, but from the sound of it you have already made your decision to attend the local high school. I am 28 and thinking back on the whole high school thing, I would have chosen differently. All my friends were going to this high school, it was a Catholic high school which my parents wanted me to go to as well. There was another high school that offered other programs that were more geared what I wanted to take. . .which like you was more artistic. I did not go there and ended up following my friends and my families choice to the catholic school. To be honest, my art teacher and English teacher were excellent at this school. . .but I visited a friend at the other high school I was looking to attend and they had a way better program when it came to artistic pursuits. Also, most of those friends I followed to the same high school with, our friendships broke apart mid way through high school and I didn't even talk to them anymore. You grow apart and true friends stick with you no matter what. So I would chose a high school that feel will best suit you as far as education. If you are concenred about losing your current friends, if you chose Magnet HS, what is not to say you will not drift apart anyways. Also, you can make new friends, with same kind of creative drive as you. You mentioned that the local high school has a marching band. . . but really . . .how is that going to help you creatively. Hope i helped somewhat and you can make a decision.
