Is this a good science fair project "do plants grow better in water or soil?"?

Answer:
Yeah, that's good. You could grow some type of plant in each and compare the results. Some advice - you might want to specify your experiment a bit. For example, a similar idea is to see whether potatoes grow without soil. See the third site below. Check out these sites. The field of hydroponics (growing plants in water) is an exceptionally interesting one, and potentially very useful (space travel, multi-tiered greenhouses, etc.) It would be interesting to also compare which types of plants thrive in all water versus soil. Overall, excellent idea.

I think it depends on whether or not your teacher wants a complicated Science Fair experiment from you. If you choose one that isn't hard, but you do a good job on it, I think that you can get a good grade on it. I am doing a simple one, but I think I'm going to have a lot of fun experimenting with it! Good luck!
