Why am I so scared for the first day of school?

Scared!! First day of high school!!?

  • In about a month is my first day of high school and I'm terrified! I worry myself sick! I have to take the bus, but all my friends have older siblings to take them :( so I have nobody on my bus and I'm so scared about walking in the school alone! I'm not scared about getting bullied or picked on because I'm good at handling that, I'm kinda scared about getting lost but I'm gonna try and nail my route on orientation day... I'm really worried I won't know anybody in my classes or have anyone to sit with at lunch! My high school is one of the biggest in the country and most people here are jerks unfortunately... Ugh I have so many worries racing through my head, it's caused me to lose sleep and I can't enjoy the rest of my summer! I don't want summer to ever end!! :(

  • Answer:

DON'T WORRY, you'll be fine ! Trust me. For being on the bus alone just sit next to someone who looks really friendly and say hi and make friends with them and they can be your bus buddy, on walking alone, just go straight to your locker, and get what you need then go to class, and on orientation day, yes try your best to memorize where ALL your classes are, because if you ask one of the older kids they'll probably tell you the wrong directions (unless their nice, this happened to me haha), an if you don't know anyone in your class just talk to the person next to you, and be super nice! It's always nice making new friends (: As for lunch, on orientation day pick a place with your friends on where you want to meet up, such as the bathroom or vending machine! Also, if most people are jerks just be nice trust me, it'll keep you out of drama and you might even make friends with them! Just remember: Don't worry, it's only 4 years of your life, and by the 2nd week of school you'll be used to the place and everything will be fine, now go and enjoy the rest of your summer!

haha I had the exact same dilemma last year :) Just go with the flow. I live in NY and my high school has the most students in my borough (about 4500 or so), so you'd know why i was so scared. I had no one to go with on orientation day OR the first day of school. But I found my way around. I just kept on my poker face. So on the outside, I looked laid back and unworried, when in reality, I was terrified out of my mind xD The lunch part was a bit of a problem for me too, and it still is -.- So on my first day, I just brought a book to lunch. Over time I made some friends :) Just don't keep the school map in you face the whole day or your schedule paper :3 Memorize it~ Don't fret. You'll get through it and at the start of sophomore year, you'll be laughing and thinking to yourself, "Was I really that terrified of this?" :) Good Luck!

I just graduated in May, here's my advice: Have confidence! Hold your head high and don't let ANYONE talk down to you or walk over you, yes you may be a freshman but that's no reason to be picked on. I was picked on Fresh-Junior years, then my senior year I went into it with my head held high and no one messed with me. At orientation day find a place to meet up with your friends, review each othersschedules etc. Things will get better I promise! and 4 years from now, you'll be asking yourself, "why was I so nervous to begin with?" If you do have problems with bullies, ask them to stop, if they don't tell a teacher, parent, or counselor I know it's not the "cool" thing to do, but in time it will eat your self-confidence ALIVE if you don't ask someone for help-take it from someone who had this problem-teachers are there to help you as well, even if you think they aren't. Just ask them for help, and don't be afraid to speak up. GOODLUCK!

Just fight the biggest, baddest dude and nobody will mess with you again.

I was really really nervous about my first day too. i just finished freshman year, its really not as difficult as you think its going to be. And as long as you go through your schedule once at orientation you should be fine because you subconsciously lock it into your brain. the most important thing is to stay calm.

Just punch the biggest girl in the face the first day and everyone will know you are not to be played with.

Yup!

yes, you should be scared. people that sit by them self at lunch are bashed brutally. i remeber all of this because i bashed them and many of my other friends. we enjoyed bashing the crap out of them and it was so fun. the teachers won't remeber your name and won't give a **** about you. the teachers are going to pick on you for no reason and enjoy your summer holidays. you won't even be able to take a **** without the popular people comming and taking photos of you. enjoy!

Who doesn't have these worries? I remember never wanting to get to high school. You learn where your classes are in about a day or two. That's why the first week schools let you be tardy without you getting into trouble. And if your school is the biggest in the country that means you're more likely to find people to relate to! Being scared is normal. Who isn't afraid of change? You'll look back in a year and think, "Wow, I was worried for nothing!". =)

Some time's the simplest answers can be the best. Pray. I don't know if you are religious or not, but God is always there to listen. Pray, and you may feel better. You can also sit down with a counselor before you start, and they can make you feel at ease.
