Don't be afraid of the test. I just took it about 8 months ago. I figured out the hard way. Even if you do bad you will still have another go at it the next year. Take whatever advantage is open so you will reach your goal. Study hard but don't push it over the limits. If you need more time bring your books with you and look over it while in line at the place your taking the test. Answer all the questions. Don't take long on one question. If your strong point is Math or English then go for that first. When you get something wrong in the Prep book, go find the answer and the reason you got it wrong.(Kaplan has the answer/reason) If you don't know the answer then cross out what seems to be the wrong answer by clues. You don't have to worry there is no writing. Search far and wide for help on the SHSAT definitely look on the Internet because it will have a lot that you can learn from. Its your score no one else's. Don't let there comment on your score make you depressed. Just because your parents said about what they are going to do with you because you got a low score doesn't mean your dumb. People are good in different subjects. Don't let them sway you from what you wish to become. God nor human control your destiny besides yourself. This is not a competition, this is for your own good, so don't change it into a competition for you might do worse then what you might've gotten. For me I took the test using my own knowledge. I got 420 which sucks to me so next year when I'm at Cardozo High School I'm going to study well and take it again with the help I have gained. If you have older sibling then let them teach you for they must've or might've taken the test. Remember this if power is what you seek then Knowledge is also in your quest. Do not let a wall (Parents/Peer Pressure/Test) block you from your destiny. For when that wall is gone your path is what you choose. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality." ~Quoted from John Lennon. So have faith in yourself and see where life will take you, for life is a endless road unless you yourself make it end.

Well, about half-a-year before taking the SHSAT, I thought I was ready... but I was wrong because the preparation books that I bought were deceiving. The problems presented were way easier than the actual problems on the test when I took it. Luckily, my parents sent me to Ivy Prep, which is a test prep school that focuses on any kinds of tests, from fourth grade and up. They give you SAT work when you're taking the SHSAT because it is better to know more than you're supposed to. For example, when you're doing karate, you have to aim pass the object in order to break the object itself and this is like acing the SHSAT. I believe there's an Ivy Prep in all five boroughs, except for Staten Island and the Bronx. For Brooklyn, there's one on 60st 8ave. It's next to this mini-supermarket. For Manhattan, it's on Bowery Street, but I'm not sure of the address (although there's always this Chinese lady passing out yellow fliers. I don't know where the Bronx one is because I've never been there, so sorry about that. And don't try to google it because it doesn't have a website (although there is an article by the New York Times about the principal of Ivy Prep, which is Mr.Wong. Good Luck
