Is genetics a hard college course?

Is college a little overated in this country?

  • I for one think that the whole college thing is overrated. You do not need a college education to make it by in this world. All those letters behind your name do not mean a thing. Everybody automatically thinks "college=$$$$," but not always so. All these new and current college graduates have no work for them. All the work for them is already taken. So, and I heard this in my local news, they are basically overqualified for jobs like MacDonald's and Burger King. They don't want them when there are plenty of needy people out there that need the job. So, college graduates have a harder time getting jobs than the lower people. Everybody nowadays is always saying "stay in school" or "get into a good college." Let us dissect this a bit. I was in high school in the early 1960s. I dropped out in 10th grade. I then went into the Air Force. After that I got a good job where I have been working for 41 years this year. My brother also did the same thing. He is older than me. He dropped out of HS and joined the Navy. After-wards, he sold insurance for 30 years, and worked at a hotel as a clerk part time. He started working with computers around 20 years ago, and currently owns his own business and makes a lot of $$$. My younger brother also took this route. My youngest brother graduated high school, but started work immediately after. No one in my family has been to college, most have not graduated HS, and yet we have always been quite successful. So, in my opinion, college is merely a waste of money, having to go through all those student loans, and then not be able to find work. A GED is just as good as anything in these times of woe and want. College i s expensive. Going up all the time. And how many graduates actually use their degrees to get a job. In my opinion, only doctors and lawyers should be counted as highly successful CDs, since they take a long time in college and work very hard, and use their degrees. Everybody is always shoving the the college thing down kids throats, and none more than the government. The smartest kids I have ever known took the GED course, and are very good at what they do. And to be honest, most employers could care less how many letters are behind your name, as long as you are good at what you do. But of course, no one wants to do a little hard work any more. They want to start out at the top and sit behind a little computer all day, doing nothing, and being unhappy. Hard work is out there, tons of it, it is that just people don't want to work any more, they want to sit there and type. Most people who are CDs end up unhappy and end up relying on the federal government to take care of them for the rest of their lives. So sad how just a simple brainwashing technique can corrupt a whole generation.

  • Answer:

Yes it is. They end up hiring mexicans to do the lower jobs. So not only are the college grads overqualified to work at McDonald's they will not be hired even if they dropped out of HS. The 60's were when the race riots happened. Since then the racist law has been passed. Yes it's racist. If you are a "minority" you get the job regardless of qualification, criminal status, competence, sanity, drug use, common sense, etc. So they can't get the job at all, because the racist law comes in the way. They say that it's to help minorities but it only seems to hurt them. Since you can't ever take any of them seriously any more. "I know why you got hired." Not for being qualified but for your skin color. So they fail at life, then wounder why. Their parents are to blame for creating the racist law. It's about time we made better immigration laws. Factories need to be punished for hiring illegals. Sure; in the short run they will make a lot of profits. But they will be funding terrorism, American poverty, drug dealers, more illegal immigration, crime, and other horrible things. In the long run the gap between the rich and poor will widen so much that Americans will be so poor they will not even be able to buy what the factory produces so the factory will go out of business. So I agree with you, greed is ruining this country. People want to start at the "top." But there is no "top" any more. Only greedy corporations who hire slaves. Just look at how people get treated that work for minnimum wage; abused, not given breaks, forced to work in unhealtly environments, yelled at, stolen from, etc. The problem with this country is that we are not investing in America. We are investing is greed. And that's bad! People go to college to make more money, and leave only to find out it was a mistake! Sad, yes brainwashing indeed. College is a business. They lie to you to get money. They sell you stuff you don't need. "you'll get a higher paying job." No you wont! So many college grads have no job, no future.

Wow, you're clueless. Check out the jobs at http://www.bls.gov/jobs/ it has a list of almost any job you can think of. Look at the pay of the jobs which require a high school diploma vs the jobs that require a college education. I go to college because I've worked in a warehouse, I'm not going to do that for the rest of my life.

Horrifically overrated. Many people on Yahoo answers are, no offense, sheep who seem to believe college is "holy" and that anyone speaks against it is a brain dead moron. The truth about college is not a guarantee for a job, which is a complete and total fabrication by friends, family, politicians (then again, they should NEVER be trusted) and the media due thanks to so many idiotic employers requiring them in the first place, even if the job isn't in the field that the degree should qualify them for! Not only that, it's a social norm because it's absolutely hyped up as THE ONE AND ONLY OPTION IN THE WORLD! The thing is, the stuff you learn in college can be beneficial, but the problem is people assume that stuff you learn in college is ONLY in college. Believe me, it isn't. You have several thousands of resources at your finger tips. For most, it's the frigging internet. I've learned math much better online than I ever could from paying a tutor for a bloated price tag. THAT is absolutely absurd. Not only that, but when I was in college, I hardly cracked open a book. Pressing in a search criteria works wonders over having to flip through pages of a huge book to get a specific answer for an assignment. This country is ****** up. But really though, it's more so about you than your schools. Unfortunately, people are being taught to think within a narrow box so much that this "about you than your school" excuse holds little water these days.
