Turning point in Lord of the Flies?

I am writing an essay on a turning point in Lord of The Flies. I am doin the fire going out and the passing ship as the turning point. I have to describe how the incidents outcome is important to my appreciation of the main concerns of the novel. I have no idea what this means and don't know what to write for the answer. Can anybody give me tips, ideas or a full answer? Thanks
