I can't concentrate!! how do you read and comprehend while effectivly using ur time?? anyone help? this is for a stupid AP world history class.. *and I've tried the Liberary... didn't quiet work out as I planned it too... *My mind keeps on distracting my own mind.. (it wanders off) * When I read I sometimes repeat what I already read. * When I read outloud, my lips move while my head as no idea what I'm reading.. ^^ anyone to help and know the solution? please help! and if you answer THANK YOU!

  • Answer:

Decide how many sessions you are going to spend doing the reading. It is better to break a long read up, and do something different for a while after completing each section. Place bookmarks in the book to mark the start of each section. Assign one section to each session, and stick to the schedule. That gets rid of the panic feeling 'I have to read all this by ....'.

I have the same problem reading long, boring text books. What I do is read a part of the text and then make notes on it before resuming reading. This way I know I have understood what I've read and writing notes helps me remember the information. I also have notes to look back on to review later.

You get off the computer

Highlight like a madwoman, that's what I do. Also, go back to the library, but keep yourself away from the computer -- they are the #1 distractor because of sites like this one. Don't get too crazy about reading extremely thoroughly, go for main topics and you can look over it again if you're not getting it.

You can try working in a group of at least two people and have each person take turns reading a page. If this is too tedious you can just make an outline or take cornell notes.

Heres what I had to do. First, can you write in the book? If not get a pad and pencil. Every chapter has an introduction with key words. Find them and write or highlight them. Second, now scan the chapters for the words. the ones you wrote down etc.. Third, remember the pertinent meaning of the info, I write it down w/ page number. It helps when your instructor reviews in class. You have the notes w/page numbers. Form your own way this helped me.

Learn to speed read. In most paragraphs, it is the first and last sentence that tells you what the paragraph consists of. Most schools offer courses in how to speed read effectively.....you should look into it. And yes it works, that is how I got through university.
