Need help with Social studies!?
-
Ok I have no idea why but I always do bad in social studies even when I studied for like 3 hours. I know what each chapter is about but the questions on the test are really hard and sometimes I don't even remember them being in the chapter. I have a C in social studies and I have been trying hard to bring it up to at least a B but I really need help with some good study habits for studying for social studies. Somebody please help!

I find timelines to be one of the most useful study aids for history. Usually you can find them at the bottom of the pages, but if not, Google one for the time you are studying. Let's say you're doing the American Revolution. Google a time line and print it. As you read, if you find the event on the one you printed in your book (or class notes) highlight it. One color for the book, one color for class notes. Star it if it's both -- because then your teacher thinks it's REALLY important. If something on the time line you printed is not in either place, cross it out. Add events if needed. Now, create a fresh one with just the important events you have identified. Make sure you know what each event is and study them in order. History is easier to remember if you remember what caused something -- for example, the stamp act came before the Revolution -- it was a cause. This will also give you a visual aid, which can be a great help. Good luck and good question.

Both of the above answers have great advice. I'd use this strategy: 1. Read the chapters. 2. Memorize everything in them, all the facts. 3. Now think about them. What caused each event, and what were the effects? 4. Use the tests you've already had to figure out the types of questions your teacher will ask on future tests. For example, you memorized dates and people's names, but the teacher asked you to compare two things on a test. So try to find things to compare in the new material, like two political parties or two battles. Or maybe the teacher had questions like, "What is the importance of the hand axe tool in prehistoric times?" on a test. So think what the importance might be for some of the topics in your current lessons. 5. Review with a buddy. Ask some of the kids in your class who do well on the tests to quiz you. See what kinds of things they focus on.

maybe u should reconcider the way u study. First, be logical, do u have the tv on? Do u have ur cellie on? What about the radio? If u consintrate more by turning off all ditractions, u will study better and therefore u will do better on the test!!! ♥

Sometimes subjects just come to you like I can't explain but I'm really good in history it's like it's my thing. I think you should get a study partner, (the person has to be better than you in social studies) try studying with your partner before the test and you'll do fine.
