What exactly is a thesis statement?

How do I craft a successful thesis statement? What are the qualities of a good thesis statement?

  • I just want to know, what makes a good thesis statement in an essay. How should I write one for any general essay? Could you provide examples of good thesis statements? Please do not provide just a link to some website. I want to hear from your own words.

  • Answer:

A thesis should say exactly what you will talk about in your article/essay. It should talk about what kinds of references you use and what you will argue. Your introduction paragraph should look something like this: Hook (interesting first-line). lead-in to topic (how your hook relates to whatever subject you'll be talking about). thesis (what you'll argue). Your conclusion paragraph should be a mirror image essentially: Re-stating the thesis in different words. Starting to "zoom out" and apply whatever you argued to a larger picture of some sort. Exit hook, something to hopefully leave your reader engaged and interested in the subject. My tip is to write your conclusion first in your paper. Next, write your opening paragraph. Your body should be last. Hope this is clear. Good luck with your paper. -j http://jeslyncollective.com
