  as a model plane builder myself there are two types of the kind you re talking about: foam and balsa. both require glue but foam can be put together in a single day whereas balsa cant. for the you would need a kit (around 100 dollars) and a radio (150 if it does not come with a kit) those you can have flying the sane day you bought it. Balsa ON the other hand is much more time consuming but you get a much better sense of accomplishment. you'll need the kit (base price for a trainer is 100 but they can cost way up into the thousands) a radio ( same as kit for prices) instant jet glue epoxy , engine (the price of the engine is from 50 dollars or so per engine and up) a balsa wood saw) fuel and other miscellaneous parts. when you re done with that kit it will cost around 700 dollars for the base price. these can also go into the thousands and even the hundred thousands. good luck
