What are some good topics for a process speech?

Help with my speech?!!?

  • I need a speech topic BY TOMORROW and can't come up with one. There's a list at the end of this paragraph of topics that are off limits. Please help me come up with one! Thanks! For your last speech, you must choose must persuade us to change our thoughts or our actions. You must think of a problem and identify a solution to that problem. If you are able to convince us that your topic is a real problem and your solution can help fix/change the problem, then you have persuaded us! It’s easier than you might think. Step 1: You must choose a topic. Since you will be using the Problem/Solution organization pattern for this speech, you will divide your persuasive topic into two main points: the problem and the solution. Now, start brainstorming. What do you consider a problem? What ticks you off? What do you consider a pet peeve? What do you get your soapbox about? You can think on any scale. Maybe you consider global warming a problem. Or maybe you don’t like how student government is run. Or maybe you hate it when people wear shoes in the house. If you do your research and get a little creative, you can use whatever you consider a problem as a speech topic. Ok, got something? Great! Let’s move on. ------Wait! Did you check the Terminal Topic List? You are NOT allowed to use these topics!------ Step 2: Approve the topic with me. You’ll need to answer three questions: 1. What is your topic? (I am against corporal punishment, I am against people wearing shoes indoors) 2. What is the problem? (Children may develop mental and emotional problems, The bacteria spread from the bottom of shoes increases your chances of getting sick) 3. What is the solution? (Use positive reinforcement and time-outs, Wear slippers or have “indoor shoes”) Step 3: Start researching! While you can use your personal experience in this speech, you must find evidence from reliable sources. See the Checklist for the specific requirements on sources. You’ll need to answer several questions as you look through material. What is the problem? Who does the problem affect? Where and when is it a problem? Finally, why is it a problem? You now must answer the same kinds of questions about the solution. What is the solution, who can do it, how do we do it? Finally, you must justify why your solution is better than what is currently happening. The solution does not have to be your idea. You may find the perfect solutions in your research. Step 4: Write that speech! Use the Grading rubric, the checklist and your note to aid the writing process. Be creative! Think about your audience. Would you want to listen to what you are writing? Will it make since to anyone? Is it relevant to the audience or to your topic? Step 5: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Practice talking through your speech. Reading it in your head will not be enough! Avoid memorizing. You simply want to learn your facts well enough that you can talk naturally and confidently about the topic, using brief notes. Practice at least 6 times, for the best retention. Practice in front of the mirror, practice in front of friends (ask them to be brutal), practice with group members, or even film yourself and watch it back.
