What is George Orwell book 1984 about?

Anyone know of the book 1984 by george orwell?

  • Answer:

It's a totalitarian government - i.e. the citizens have no voice in the government, the government controls everything the people do. Much of what the government does is to brainwash the citizens into thinking that the what the government is telling them to do is really their choice. I really suggest that you read "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley after this one. Many writers have taken on the idea of how to portray a government that has removed people's abilities to make choices in their lives without it being apparent that it has happened.

There is only one party. The book was modeled after Communist Russia, Big Brother is actually a representation of Joseph Stalin. Party is really a bad way to describe it, if you apply what you know about political parties today, especially in the U.S. In 1984 they have no choice in what "party" they can follow, they are all told what to do, where to go, and who to be. Do a little research on Communism, specifically in Russia and the government system in 1984 should make a lot more sense. Quite frankly, if your reading this book without any knowledge of it your teachers have failed you because that's what the whole book is about, I wouldn't be surprised if your confused.
