I cannot pay for my ebay item.

Should I pay for an eBay item outside of eBay?

The ebay seller wants me to pay for an rare item that I really want using paypal only to avoid high ebay fees on his part. He sent me a "money request" (rather than an invoice) on paypal. My question is, if i pay the request, do I have any form of buyer protection after he claims the funds? Is there any way at all I can get a refund If i'm not happy with the item?

I think you misunderstand how ebay works. ebay owns PayPal. They want you to use PayPal for all payments and generally require that you do so to ensure there is no fraud.. Astrobuf
