I want to start my own website. where should i start?

i have looked at some sites already that offer domain and web site hosting, site builders, and so on. i'm not dumb i get all that but what i don't honestly understand is what i will get for my money if i sign up for them. i dont just want to create some website like what i did 6th grade for a science project, i want a fully functioning website , where people can sign in and out with usernames and passwords, chat, have profiles, etc. my gut tells me i won't get that on 5.99/month. if it sounds too good to be true it usually is i guess. please suggest web site builders i can use to create a website like that. money is not a factor at this point, i just want suggestions. thanks so much

Answer:
try "microsoft office live" For a beginer, it's VERY easy to manioulate and it's FREE. I do sites for all of my friends there and they have no idea that I'm using pre-designed stuff. Good luck

Important! Do NOT host your domain with the same people who host your web page! This is super important. if you decide later on to switch web hosts, they can make life difficult by not allowing you to change your domain name registrar. For this reason, I always ALWAYS encourage people do use a different company as their domain name registrar. If you look for domain name hosting, all of them try and sell you web hosting at the same place. This is propaganda. I use 1and1.com for a domain name registrar and I use a different host for my website. I can't say which hosts to use, but I will say, if you want anything with complexity, avoid the commodity based hosts (I've had issues with godaddy.com before) here's a bit of detail as to why I'm against the commodity "cheap" hosting providers. http://www.geniegate.com/godaddy.php They'd probably be good for static HTML pages though. No. 1 concern is to use an alternate registrar for your domain name. You don't want your domain name held "hostage" if you decide to switch HOSTING providers at a later time.

Well first thing first I would learn "HTML" see if your local college offers the class on it this will help you learn all the ins and outs of making a website. This will also teach you what kind of hosting you want and what you want it to do.

you can do that all that such as livechat, membership or profiles and many more such as forum, blog, your own classified ads, photo galleries , guestbooks, but you need to check on the package that comes with the hosting. those above features are done using a script and need database. and you can customize it yourself but you need to learn how to use the tools yourself. they won't do it for you. so if you want my recommendation which web host provides the tools and script in its hosting package you can check out below resources. read everything about their features packages and complete script section.

Sitebuilder is great. That's how I built mine. Actually, I have two I'm working on at once. I just started them. I knew nothing and in 2 weeks I had two functioning websites. I know it's not great yet, but it's growing daily. I understand what I'm doing and I have total freedom of expanding in any way I choose. Sitebuilder also helps you get the traffic. It's everything rolled up into one. I love it. www.global-be-jeweled.com

I am a web designer but I can give you lots of information. You can get really good hosting for $2.95 a month from my favorite hosting company, http://crystaltech.com. They are reliable and have a great reputation along with hostmysite.com. The usernames/passwords thing is troubling me, do you want an ecommerce site? if so, you will spend more like 16-20/month just on hosting. getting the domain name (hwww.yoursitesdomain.com) is about $8.95/year from a site called "godaddy.com" which is my personal preference, though there are dozens of places to get a domain. please visit my site at http://www.frannysites.com and check out my profile. if you don't want me to design your site, i can at least help you get started.

I have a site about bipolar disorder that is doing very well. the link below explains who I use and you can see exactly what they offer and what they cost. I have been very happy and am glad I purchased a total solution instead of a $5.95 month compromise.
