I agree that if you seriously want to build a real website you should forget the free options. In effect you can build a free site simply with Yahoo, freewebs, and loads of others but they are never 'truly' yours -- just a subdomain of the provider -- so only any good for a vanity site or a family 'just for a bit of fun' site.
