Answer:
Don't "sell", people don't like to be sold. It's all about exposure and branding yourself as the expert. Start up a conversation with everyone you come in contact with, you never know who you'll come across. Attend every networking event you can find. When you make new contacts show an interest in them and keep up with them even if they aren't interested in or don't need what you have to offer. Their needs may change or they may come across people who need what you offer. You want to make sure that you are the first person they think of. Take advantage of every opportunity you have to share your knowledge without sharing so much that the people don't need you.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if I do - I think it's important to make yourself as valuable a commodity as possible. People will buy, or be (sponsored) by someone who they think of as successful or at least moreso than them. Read as many books as you can on what you are selling, be it an item, opportunity, or both. Take some courses. Really KNOW your product and be excited and confident about it without going into the realm of just being unrealistic (overboard). Also be sure to care about folks. Don't just sell some nonsense they don't really need. Sell something that'll help people, have a heart for them, make sure they know how it'll benefit them.

Hey, while Jerry's answer was unnecessarily snide, it makes sense if you give it some thought. That said: Learn about (or hire expertise) in inbound marketing and SEO. Yes, my company does those things . . . Good luck!

One person said "don't sell" because others don't want to be sold. I agree that people don't want to be sold...but you still gotta sell. The point is that you don't want to make people feel as if they're being sold. Do a fact finder. Find out what the core needs are (that relate to what you're selling) through questions. The point here is that you want to be more of an advisor than appear to be a salesman.
