Can i file for unemployment benefits if fired and have a small small business?

  • i was recently fired from my full time job of 10 years and i have a small business which is not leaving me enough money it was more for exra pocket change and hobby wise but the small store is registered under my name? by the way im in Texas

    Sorry about you getting fired, that sucks. You can still collect unemployment benefits especially if your small business isn't bringing in enough money for you to live on.

You can't collect unemployment if you were fired, only laid-off.

Probably. I know you can in other states. You will probably have to report your small business income which will be deducted from your benefits.

I live in Texas and my mother is retired from the Texas Employment Commission... You cannot collect unemployment if you were fired with good reason. However, you can file a claim if you feel you were unfairly fired and there is a chance after investigation you may be awarded benefits.
