How does bidding work on Ebay if you win?
-
I'm not sure I'm quite nervous. I know bidding usually places you in a binding contract, but what happens if you win? For example if the Winning bid is $50 and the buy now price (which avoids the bid) is $500.. are you subject to paying the seller a high price like $500? Is it really possible to win a really expensive or cool item for a very cheap price by bidding?

Answer:
If the winning bid is just $50 and the BIN price was $500, the winner would pay just $50. Yes, you can sometimes get items cheap but keep in mind many auctions do tend to have the majority of their action within the last 24 hours so don't count on getting that big of a deal until the auction has actually closed.

When an eBay item has a Buy It Now price and also an Or Make A Bid option, that means that the seller has set a price to buy it now and has also set a hidden minimum price they will accept for an item. If an Item is listed at $500 and you bid $50, eBay will make the seller aware of the bid, but there is absolutely NO obligation for the seller to sell the item for $50, unless that meats or exceeds the seller's hidden minimum price. If an item is listed for $500 and the hidden minimum price is $50 or less, the item will be sold just as it would in a regular auction, to the highest bidder over the minimum price, at the end of the auction period, which is usually either 7 or 10 days. If an item is listed at BIN $500 and you bid $50, you are wasting your time. If you bid $350 or higher, you may have a chance of winning the item..

You only pay for what your wining bid is. If the buy now is $500 and your winning bid is $50, you pay $50. However, most experienced sellers place what is called a reserve on their item - in this case, the seller might have placed a $400 reserve which means even though your bid ($50) won, the bid did not reach the reserve and there is no transaction. Because of reserves, you very rarely are able to buy an expensive item cheaply (this usually happens only with new sellers who don't understand the system - they learn quick though).

YES! That's what eBay is for. Its for getting expensive things for a cheaper price its just seeing how much your willing to spend . When you've won a bid it will tell you, you need to pay for an item, once it is paid they will ship it to you. You are not subject to paying them the buy it now price unless of course you buy it now.
