How do I market a great idea?

I have what I think is a great idea for a product, how do I start to get it to market?

• What's my first step to get my idea/product to market? I know I need to diagram things out, which would be rather easy. Building it myself would be difficult if not impossible because it contains skills and tools I don't have and can't get. It's a bit high-tech but nothing out of the realm of other things available on the market - just a reapplication of existing technology. Once I am done drawing things out at home and identifying any details and/or potential problems, then what?

  Build it or as much as you can. Once you know it works and it's worthwhile (every little detail). patent it so no one can steel your idea. Than You can sell your idea or charge a % to a compony who sells them or send a sample to a dude in china, tell him you want a few thousand of them than sell them in a store, or sell them to many stores.
