When would be the best time to list my eBay item?

What would you charge to list stuff on ebay for someone else???

  • Hey guys, My landlord wants me to list some stuff on ebay for him. Not just a few things but he wants to make a business out of it. Me doing all the listing, pictures emails shipping everything except for buying the items. He is going to buy and I will be incharge of everything else. What is a fair price to charge. Should I charge commition or per item listed or what would you do.......Anyone know what other places charge to list something for you?? Thanks ahead of time.

  • Answer:

10% plus any eBay, PayPal and shipping and handling fees.

YOU CAN CHARGE COMMISION PERCENTAGEWISE. IT WOULD THE PERCENTAGE OF LAND AMOUNT. CURRENT MARKET RATE IS 10-15% OF LAND COST. INDIVISUALY YOU CAN EARN THIS MUCH AMOUNT PER DEAL.

I would do like $10 plus $2.50 an item. Not big bucks, I mean, listing stuff on eBay is not that hard.

Charge actual listing and Final Valuation Costs plus 7.5% of the sale value.

The first thing is to write up a contract between the two of you. Because not all of the items will sell you should charge per listing just like Ebay charges you so you don't end up losing money. I would think that anywhere from 10-20% plus actual fees is fair. You shouldn't have to pay listing fees for things that don't sell. Make sure you know upfront how much he is looking to get for each item. You won't want to start the auctions for 99 cents unless he's willing to sell for that. I got stuck by a friend of mine wanting me to do all of the work and she ended up giving the item away after I got a bid on it. Put it all in writing so you know who does what.

Do not underestimate the amount of time and energy you will be putting into listing items on eBay. Sorting items, taking pictures, listing items, invoices, followup on non-payers, packaging, travel to or arrangements for item pickup and maintaining records for taxes etc. Please have every detail of what is expected of you to be in writing, including your fees. If all of the information for the eBay account is in your landlord's name, you should be entitled to all considerations of an employee, because that is what you will be - whether full time or part time. Determine how much time you will devote to HIS business and when and how you will be paid. Fees should be paid out of his PayPal account. You should be considering an hourly rate rather than a percentage. (No less than $15.00 per hour) That way if items sell at very low $$ you are fairly compensated for your time and not penalized for low sales because it takes the same amount of time to list low dollar items as high end merchandise. Please be cautious! This will be hard work and long hours answering emails, shipping, listing, etc. It can also be extremely rewarding, but you are not the person selecting the items to be sold. You are relying on someone else to make the decisions and they may not be good decisions. Protect yourself and Good Luck!!

charge how much your time is worth, how much would you earn if you were working in that time if you don't have the time don't do it it would be different if it was like a couple of things for a friend, but its not, he's asking you to do a lot, so charge what you think is fair and if he accepts thats all well and good. If he refuses to pay, don't put stuff on ebay for him, he'll have to do it himself or get someone else to. Don't get stuck in the rut of getting little for making him money.
