What is partition in technical writing?

What kind of technical writing does an event planner, caterer, or restaurant owner have to do?

  • So for a technical writing class, I have to find out the following about someone in a field that interests me. I want to write about someone in event planning/catering or anything related. If someone could take a few minutes to help me out I would appreciate it SOO much!! What kind of communications the person writes? the readers he or she addresses? the writing process and technology the person uses? and the amount of time the person spends writing? Any other comments about what type of writing the person may do? (is it a vital part of the job, do you like it, did you expect to have to do this kind of writing when you first got the job? etc...any info is helpful)

Hello - I'll give this one a shot. I was an event planner \ organizer for around ten years and have organized everything from golf tournaments to a Royal Event with Princess Anne of the UK. What kind of communications the person writes? This depends on the event but I'll give you a broad answer: Guidance for others on the events Team that can range from the strategic and tactical plan for let's say a Golf tournament to weekly updates to management Support docs for marketing and fundraising \ sponsorships - cover letter - brochures - thank you notes - charts explaining big picture and why they should support the event Press releases \ ad copy Requests to vendors like caterers, 3rd party suppliers (selling golf balls) or even insurance companies (hole in one, events insurance) the readers he or she addresses? events team, 3rd party vendors, sponsors\advertisers, attendees, surrounding community (closing streets for a race), entire community (come out to the 5K/10K, or come see the concert) the writing process and technology the person uses? process - basic - 5Ws, choose dissemination method Tech: Word, InDesign\Publisher, Photoshop and the amount of time the person spends writing? 70% writing and communicating, 20% waiting, 10% running the event Any other comments about what type of writing the person may do? (is it a vital part of the job, do you like it, did you expect to have to do this kind of writing when you first got the job? etc...any info is helpful) A good event planner will need to do everything from marketing, sales and public relations style writing to basic business comm of collection letters, or clear guidance on how the banners should be published. They need to be very organized, M-Time (deadlines, deadlines, deadlines) and a good communicator. Hope this helps, Al
