Is working with Avon or Mary Kay worth it?
-
I've been looking at either becoming an Avon rep or for becoming a Mary Kay lady. I was looking up Avon last night and what they say on their site seems pretty good. Mary Kay when I went to one of their meettings seemed pretty good too. But is it even worth it to work for Avon or Mary Kay?

Answer:
Always google the name of a company followed by the word (s): complaint, scam, rip-off, and reviews A major thing that these reps do is not keep track of the time and money they spend. They only look at the profits and wipe out their husbands accouts without realizing it. If you choose this option keep track of all your expenses including time, gas, and money you will spend becoming a rep. Personally, I have a sign at my desk no solicitors, and a sign at my home. I run to my mailbox fast for fear that these neighbors are all in schemes to get me to buy stuff I can find of much better quality at stores. Ex: Revlon. /

You have to put a lot of time and money into any business you chose to start. The first year is always the hardest because you have to build a customer base, you know find the people who are interested in buying from you. So if you are looking to make a huge paycheck next week, that most likely won't happen. In both Mary Kay and Avon you have to work hard and have self discipline. I currently work in Mary Kay, personally my business is just rolling and i have been in it 4 months. The ladies above me are making $1000+ paychecks plus their 50% on all the sales. BUT its not for everyone and not everyone had a good experience with it. I have read crazy complaints, but I plan on sticking with it, because I want the bigger picture this has to offer me. I want that pink Cadillac and a big pay check. So i believe its ok to put a little money in at first, i guess im investing and risking, maybe this wont be right for me, but i think its where God pointed and i'm going. Anyway I think over some time its a good thing to have done, but don't look for instant satisfaction if you are to get involved with either one. Good Luck! Pray about it!

My wife worked for Avon for years, and she really enjoyed it. she had lots of fun, met some interesting people, made some close friends, learned a lot about business, and made money too. the downside is all the little bottles, and boxes of stuff that take over the house. If you do it, set aside one room for your business, and keep it neat and orderly.

Hi it really depends on what your goals are I believe. I personally really like Mary Kay cause I like the product & I get the discount. Plus I also like with Mary Kay that I get a 50% back on what I sell immediately not so with Avon--at least when I was with it in university (10-12? yrs ago). I believe they have similar marketing plans but each marketing plan is significantly different. Mary Kay is the one I know the best. One way you can get the most info is to ask for a application for each company and see the career advancement program for each one.

if you work at building your customers it is worth it

Ive been doing Avon for about a year now and i would say it was definately worth it. The first two campaigns were more work as i build up a customer base but now i have 30 regular customers and some months i just deliver to them so i go out 3 times a month and generally make £100 or more. If you were to work more than 3 days obviously the profit would be better. You just have to be organised but it is definately worth a try :).

I'm an Avon Independent Sales & Leadership Representative and I love it. Just as Paul the Cab Driver said of his wife - I have fun, have met a lot of great people and have made friends through my business. I live in a fairly small town and have only lived here for 4 years - didn't know anyone when I moved here and now my daughter says often, "Mom you know everyone!" Because everywhere we go we run into someone I know. The other thing Paul mentioned is having a dedicated space for your business. Definitely a must - even if it's a corner of a room. Just try and keep it neat and organized. I definitely think direct selling is worth it but you have to remember it is a business and you need to treat it as such. Work it like any other job and hold yourself accountable. Set your goals, write them down and make your plans on how you intend to achieve your goals - then execute your plans!
