Can you retract a bid on eBay???
-
Hi, my sister-in-law has just telephoned me and asked me how she can remove someone's bid on one of her items. She is selling a cabinet on eBay and some has bid for it by mistake and asked her to remove their bid. I'm pretty sure you can not retract a bid can you? Any advice would be appreciated, then i can telephone her back and explain... Thankyou

if there's more than 12 hours to go either bidder or seller can cancel a bid, seller can do it by "remove a bid on my item" do it through "seller tools"

Yes you can retract, i have done it myself, just follow the link, and fill in the boxes. Do not take any notice if anyone says that it is legally binding or once you bid you are obliged to carry on etc. just remember you are allowed to change your mind.

Yes you can retract a bid but remember that in the terms and conditions it is a binding contract so unless there are constructive grounds to withdraw then the account can be suspended by eBay.

It's extremely poor taste to bid on something you don't intend to buy. A bid can be removed, but a seller usually requires a really good explanation as to why, and it's up to the seller to remove it or to let it stand. Bids are binding contracts, after all. I had my 'winning' bid deleted on the first item I was buying, it was deleted without my knowledge by the seller who was antsy that I had no bidding history. I complained after the auction since my bid was higher than the winning bid. The seller denied getting my bid. I complained to eBay who sent me back a 3 paragraph explanation that the bid was removed by the seller for the likely reason that I had no 'history' yet. They said it wasn't my fault.

A bid accepted is not legally binding, but you should explain to that person why out of courtesy, but you can back out at any time before taking the money

yes - you can let someone retract a bid. My nephew bid for a computer on ebay by mistake and my brother emailed seller to explain that my nephew was 5 and in no position to be buying computer (my brother had gone to the loo and left ebay site on!!). they let him retract. much better to do this then have them not pay and go through all sorts of issues that way. I dont' think its good to make someone buy something they don't want!!!! There will be something in sellers page on ebay that tells her how to delete someone's bid.
