Why do people bid more than retail value for something on Ebay instead of buying online from the store?

yep people are stupid and cant be asked to do research

1. People bid more than retail price by mistake. 2. These people are not really buyers, they are planted by some vested interest to block deal. They just bid and but do never buy. Some times this tactics is applied to enhance price of item in future auctions by creating artificial shortage.

That's a good question. My idea is that it's the thrill of knowing you've won something. That's the best I've been able to come up with. Good luck!

Their perception on money is way off.I'm just the opposite. If i want something bad enough,I will look for it through the stores and online.If I have to save up for it,so be it.

adding to others' guesses, could be: -item out of stock at retailer -buyer has no means to pay except through ebay -international buyer to whom the retailer wont ship

Very stupid, when you go to retail store it's a 100% new, an eBay it's a big if.
