Answer:
I have to disagree with you on your detailed message that anything you have to pay for to start is a scam. That is a false accusation. I know tons of people who paid fee's to start a home based business in several different industries that make an incredible amount of income. They all have different businesses running them out of their homes, from Child daycare centers-telecommunications-home based travel agents-and many many other types of home based businesses. None of which have been scammed or ever scammed anyone. So what your saying is completely false about having to pay for something to start is a scam. You can't start a business without investing. Rather it's a product or a service you provide. You should re-think this. Now if your looking for a "job" in which you apply to, maybe get hired for the position that don't have a fee, I know a couple places that if you qualify for the position, you could apply for. You won't make much money though working from home for someone else, and you won't really get anywhere in life. But home based jobs are free to get, again, if you qualify for the position. Now, you never said what your qualifications are, what you can and can't do, so I have no clue which company to refer you over to. Can you do Secretarial type jobs? How about Data entry? Customer service? Medical transcription? and so on.

I am so sick of people saying that a home business that costs money to start is automatically a scam! I have one and it is definitely not a scam, just hard work that apparently people aren't willing to do so when they don't make any money, they want to blame it on the system when really they could be doing very well if they would have just put in the effort. If you are really serious about working from home be more open minded about it.

I have a business that is definitely not a scam and there is a small fee to start up. I'm sorry to tell you that just because a business has a start-up fee does not necessarily make it a scam. Well, Ally, maybe you figured it out by now - but this kind of question invites exactly the type of answers you DO NOT want. As I am writing this you have received 7 answers - 6 of which are trying to sell you exactly the type of scams (or borderline scam) that will NEVER help you. 99% of work at home business opportunities advertised online are NOT legit. THey are scams or borderline scams. Sorry, this is just a reality check for you. Can you come up with a business idea of your own? Something you're good at or can become good at? Perhaps you can make/build/create something to sell on Ebay? Or you're good at giving advice about particular subjects? Keep an open mind about what you might be good at that can make you money.

I have to agree with a lot of posters on here. Audrey and Ava in particular. There are so so SO many legitimate home based businesses out there that are far from a scam. I give Audrey a thumbs up because she has hit it right on the head as to why so many people call home based businesses a scam. I've had my own home based business for over seven years. I'm a mother of four. Both my husband and I both work together in our home based business, in which we had upfront costs to. Small amount, but we still had the start up fee to pay for. This is with "any" real business you venture in. It's also given me the opportunity to start my own non profit organization, which costs a lot of money to start up and carry on. I also know several people in several industries that have their own home based business and do very very well in. Each of us "business owners" had start up costs. Some less and some more then others. But the income opportunity we all had and achieved is incredible. You need to see beyond the people calling things a scam when in fact that is far from the truth. We are all "living proof" that home based businesses are not scams at all and are very real AND you can make an incredible amount of income. You can't be lazy and do nothing and expect to make an income. Home based business, any type of business will not do that. If they say they will, then THAT is probably a scam. What your looking for if you don't want the opportunity to make what you want, but don't want to invest, it is called a job. Limited amount of income, a lot of time, and you don't go anywhere in life. Sorry to be harsh, but that is the facts. If you don't want to invest and start up a business, then google "telecommuting jobs" Go through each one. There are thousands you'll need to look for. You will come up with scams and things like that. Contact the BBB or go to their web site and type in their name. If they pop up, then they are legit. Only businesses that are registered with the BBB are legit companies. If they're not registered with the BBB, that doesn't mean they are not. I know a lot of business owners that don't register their business with the BBB. It's not a law you don't have to. But they have legitament business and do very well in. If they're not registered, you'll just have to do more research on the back ground of the company, which will take time. Other than using the BBB to see if a company is a member, is the only thing they are good for. Here's a secret that I learned about the BBB. It's not a government organization. It was basically designed for consumers, employees and even Independent Representatives to be able to go and it being another source for them to vent their frustrations. It really doesn't show the integrity of a company, their business practice or anything. Each business that's a member of the BBB is pretty much subjected to consumers, employees as well as Independent Representatives to use as an attack because they didn't get what they wanted, things didn't go the way they wanted, so they make reports. After serious investigations and talking to members, employees, as well as directors of the BBB, majority of the claims made are false and a lot are ridiculous. Majority of the people think that if too many complaints filed on a company, the company will no longer be in business. This is false. So, people form "tag" teams and file multiple complaints because they're angry with someone or something that didn't suit their needs or give them what they wanted. Which is usually a free ride. Let's face it, unless your on welfare, there is no such thing as a free lunch! Maybe once in a while someone will treat you to a free lunch, but you usually have to reciprocate that somewhere down the line. Right? Now under guidelines the BBB has to post reports regardless if they're false or not. So when looking into buying a product, service, starting a business or even going to work for a company, this isn't the source to base your judgement on. It's all hear say based on someone trying to make a stink because they didn't get what they wanted. Which is usually something insane and not possible. People buy into these false accusations, only the smart ones know the real thing behind businesses. I've even seen quite a few reports that no company could have any control of and in some cases it wasn't even their company. A lady made a claim, but put the claim on the wrong company. A company that had nothing to do with the accusation at all. That was funny! But it's a claim so the BBB had to post it. I'm not trying to be mean, but unless you want to go somewhere in business, be willing and understand what's behind business, what it takes, what's involved and the opportunity it lies down for you. If your not willing to take on a real business and do what it takes, invest into it, don't look for business, look for telecommuting jobs to work from home. Google it, a lot will come up and they are all miminum waged income earners or low paying jobs. Good Luck to you!

You really need to educate you. You are asking how to start your own home business for free. What in your right mind makes you think businesses are free? You really need to do you homework. I tried over 15 opportunities in the course of 2 years so I have some great information for you plus a list of top 10 work at home scams! I am a mother of two little girls who are actually tugging on my arm as I write this so I will try to be brief. Many people are looking for work from home companies. All the scams definitely create a big problem but also, there is a problem of people misunderstanding the difference between work from home "jobs" and work from home opportunities. There really are not work from home “jobs”. To get that you have to start working for a company in their offices first, then they MAY allow you to take the job home. Most of the work from home opportunities that are legitimate offers are not an hourly pay type job. They are business opportunities that help you in starting your own business from your home. What you should do first is to decide if you are simply looking for an hourly rate type job or if you are looking for more of an opportunity for additional income such as what you would make in your own business being your own boss from home. Small home businesses have some small costs involved, less than $500 to start is reasonable and I would stay away from those wanting $1000-$5000. It doesn’t cost that much to start and run a home business so you shouldn’t pay it. If you are coming across places that say free then I would RUN don’t walk the other way! They never are. I tried them many a times and 3 weeks later I had to buy this and 6 weeks later that. After 6 months these “free businesses” had cost me over $800 on average. After trying 15 things I now work about 18-25 hours per week for a National Medical Healthcare Company. This is a nationally known and reputable home business which is what you need to make sure you are looking for. I have been with the company almost a year and a half now and I make over $4500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work, I have seen people make anywhere from $500 to over $2500. And your income will increase each month because you get paid residual income as well. The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit, life insurance and a benefits package most of which you get from day one. In addition, there are no products, no hard selling or pushing, no cold calling, no home parties and no telemarketing! That was VERY important to me. I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. You have great team support and you get to know the other people on your team pretty well. I was a bit apprehensive at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Dental Plans and the owner of the company actually sits on the board of The Consumer Health Alliance to which we are also members. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” “Time Magazine” “American Medical Review” and even in the May 2008 issue of “Parents Magazine”. Even “60 Minutes” did a big special on this home based business. Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nationwide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, K-mart, Rite Aid, CVS, Wal-mart, Publix and more. These companies would never work with a company that was anything less than reputable. You can research the company at www.workathomeplus.net TOP 10 WORK AT HOME SCAMS: 10. Craft Assembly 9. Medical Billing 8. Email/Rebate Processing 7. "A List of Companies Looking for Home workers!" 6. "Just pay for and take this class first” Then we’ll give or find you a job! 5. Typing At Home / Data Entry 4. "Turn Your Computer Into a Money-Making Machine!" 3. Pyramid Schemes (this is NOT the same as Multi-Level Marketing MLM) 2. Chain Letters/Emails ("Make Money Fast") 1. Envelope Stuffing Please beware of these scams. There are some legit home businesses out there so be careful. Look for companies in business over 10 years. Look for companies with a needed product or service, something you would be proud to represent. Look for companies that have a national reputation and are members of the US Chamber of Commerce. As for those of you who say…..”I want to work from home but I don’t want to have to pay for anything”. Well, that’s great! But it will never happen. Let’s be honest, there is no such thing as a free lunch. If it is a true honest home business you need to expect to pay. Mr. Walt Disney didn’t start the Disney empire “without paying for anything

I work from home as a real estate investor. It's really not hard to do at all. Just takes some time to get started. I graduated top of my class from college with an Accounting degree about 5 years ago. I worked in the field for a few months and decided to stay home with my kids. So my degree hasn't really helped me too much but I do make enough money to live comfortably. Check out this website..it's what I used to get started. Good luck! http://www.productsupplycenter.com/web69990

Have you tried ChaCha? They are a REAL job that you actually have to apply and be hired for. Not a stupid pyramid scam, and you do NOT pay to work for them. They are a service where customers can text in a question about ANYTHING, and a real person (called a ChaCha guide) sends them back the answer. You work at home from your own computer, using the ChaCha "universe" program to find the answers. Its really simple. Guides average $4-9 an hour, but the really good people make 10-15. Its not a great paying job or anything, but its something simple to do at home. You have to be able to type well, and know how to use search engines. You can work whenever you want, there are no restrictions. Go to ChaCha.com and click "become a guide". That will answer your questions, and take you to the application. Use my email address as the person who referred you. [email protected] Contact me at any time if you need help during the application and training process. ChaCha is a REAL company. If you have a cell phone, text a question to 242242 (its totally free except for your normal txt charges of course). A person will answer your question. That person is a ChaCha guide, and that is the job you would be applying for. I personally think its really fun!!! Its like yahoo answers, only you get paid, lol!
