As a self-employed, how much should i charge the customer on tax?

You can not charge no more than your state tax allows. My state tax is 6% so that would be 60 cents on top of the $10 charge. If you have sales you must have a tax ID and therefore would've given you a chart. You'd better make sure you have all of your ducks in a row or the IRS will getcha! :)

you can get a chart from the franchise tax board, they are the ones that issue you a license to collect sales tax. they will tell you everything you need to know.

Go to your state's Dept. of Revenue website- that should tell you. You will also have to have a tax ID # and keep track of all sales tax charged, and pay that to the state monthly, quarterly or annually, depending on how much sales tax you collect. You also in some states have to fill out and pay for a sales tax bond.
