How to sell creative products?

I'm clueless, please tell me how to promote and sell products?

  • We just started this small business. The products can be use in offices or houses. My main job is to sell it. I never did this kind of thing before. I know I can sell it whole sell to big companies or retail to individual for higher price. Big companies like Brookstone, Sharper Image or Target might be interest to buy our items and then they go retail. And also like hospitals, offices or libraries would like our products for use it in their company. And we also can sell it to individuals for their homes while they order it online from our website for retail price. Ok, I don’t know how to sell it to hospitals or offices… Do I go to their place and introduce our products, which they are very low price compare to other ppl. Or I just email them about our products? I know a little about how to build website. But I don’t know how do I charge payments online. People are depending on me on selling this. What should I do? Help please!.

You've got quite a learning curve ahead. Businesses won't just buy it from anyone. You have to talk to the person who orders their bathroom stock (toilet paper, liquid soap, etc.), not the managers or CEO or janitorial staff. The company has a budget, and usually a contract with their own supplier who sells them their items. Once a year things like this come up for review, and it's discussed, then decided on whether to renew a contract with their supplier. Best you can do is to phone a company, ask who's in charge of ordering their supplies and talk to that person, then send a thank you letter and two or three business cards. They'll keep them on file for when they renew contracts. However, price is the main thing they look at. For BIG companies like Target, Sharper Image, etc. you won't be able to get an order. Not only do they go through a central office, the person who does the contracts only orders from established companies who can fill orders for ALL their stores, not just regional areas. With a hospital--you'll likely only be able to get a foot in the door at their gift shop. IF your packaging looks attractive, and it's something that can be sold as a gift, the gift shops do buy from local artists and suppliers. They'll be doubling the price, so it would need to sell at twice the price you'll be getting from the gift shop. Call the shop, ask to speak to the manager or the buyer (both usually do the buying) and arrange a time and date to meet. Keep the meeting short and to the point, usually 15 minutes. Bring samples. Bring your price sheet & business cards. Gift stores (the non-chain ones) order the same way. You call, ask to speak to the buyer, get hold of them and arrange a meeting if they're interested. Since I don't know what you're selling, or how it's presented/packaged, your best bet is to look in your phone book and get in touch with your local SCORE office or SBA office, they're there to help new business people get started and they can walk you through a lot of stuff. Having some marketing experience behind you would help, or at the bare minimum some professional sales experience, but there are ways around that. Contact your SCORE or SBA. Good luck.

To get your business running give samples to people who you don't know. To go retail see the Target Manager with your product and he will refer to you someone higher then him. (Target Hierarchy) All the best for your business.

Nothing is for free; pay for your information. Go to school or hire a salesman. Salesmen have a gift. I hope no one gives this gift away for free. I will give you one clue. Go to your potential clients and learn from the school of hard knocks. Have fun

Not enough info. If you are for real email me and give me more info and I will be glad to point you in the best direction I know. I have been in sales for 20 years and I have sold over the phone, B2B including major hotels, distributors, Hospitals. I ran the state contract for a major supply house. I sold In home. you name it. Most of the time they "buy" more into the salesman than the product. If you have both a good sales pitch and a good product money soon follows. It's up to you!....

Make (1)a web sight explaining the features and benefits of the product. include pictures or video. (2) make a power point presentation again, explaining feature and benefits. (3) make a business card with your email and web page. (4) get a laptop with RGB Video out and you Power Point on it (5) dress up and visit offices with your laptop. and ether present your Power point or explain a little about the product and refer them to the web sight while giving them your card. Get a paypal/business account and tie into tour web page.

Write a business plan. Since you are targetting companies with hundreds of stores, answer the question of how you would go about supplying all of their stores tomorrow. :o) Good luck.
