What possible jobs can I get?

What part-time jobs can i get at the age of 14?

  • I'm 13 turning 14 at the start of summer. I want to get a part-time summer job since i want to earn some money. My parents can't afford to get me a cell phone or allowance for highschool so i figured that i'd have to earn it myself. My father is retired and my mother is already stressing out paying for the bills/mortgage. So i want to help pay for small things. I heard that at 14 it's possible to get a part time job. But i'm not entirely sure. Can anyone tell me what jobs i can possibly apply for? (Like fast food restaurants, assitance or what?) And please don't mention babysitting since there is pretty much no one i can babysit. Is it possible for me to do cashier work or work 8 hours a everyday in the summer? Is 14 too young for all this? (And by the way, i was born in 1994 if that helps)

It can be hard to get a job at 14 because of child labor laws which can be pretty limiting as far as the hours youre allowed to work. It is possible to lie about your age, but whether you are honest or not about your age, just put in a bunch of applications at a lot of places. You'll get a lot of places tell you no (this has nothing to do with your age, it's just the way it is) but keep at it and maybe some place will say yes. Being a lifeguard might be cool if they'd let you, and being a waitress or hostess might also be okay. And at some stores you might get an employee discount. If you live in a neighborhood, you can put an ad in the neighborhood paper for babysitting services. I know you said you don't want to do that, but it's hardly work. It might even be possible to watch some kids every day throughout the summer if both parents work, which would be a pretty sweet gig.

I heard McDonalds hires and other fast food restaurants and small coffee shops. My high school and middle school pay really good for janitor cleaning after school. $8 and hour!

it depends on the state I think. Im in NY and at 14 I think you can work on farms here but I think the hours are VERY limited. Fast food places, grocery stores and all that you have to be at least 16 and some places are changing to 18 faster and faster.. Go to your guidance counselor since you need working papers anyways and ask them if there is anywhere you can work...

One of the best jobs for a teenager during the summer is to be a lifeguard at the local pool or YMCA. You will have to be able to complete a course and pass the test, but it can be a lot of fun and great exercise. It also is a great way to meet new friends and have a good time while making some money.

You really can't legally work most places until you're at least 16 and even then you do have to have parental consent forms signed and can only work limited hours. I actually don't know anyplace that you can work at 14. Your best bets are doing odd jobs for people. Mowing lawns, walking dogs, going to purchase groceries for the elderly.

I started working when I was 14 at my local movie theatre. I also know that my local pool hired at a young age as well. You should also be able to deliver papers.
