Should I start on my website now?

Should I quit eBay now and start my own website?

  • I've been running a shop on eBay for about a yr & have had so many problems - dodgy customers buying & not paying, trying 2 access my accounts (unsuccessfully I hasten to add!), dishonest customers & low prices due 2 everyone looking 4 a bargain. I've got a fantastic website designed on paper but do I take the plunge now? I'm gonna have to invest in £2k more stock & am looking to buy a house with my partner in a couple of months! eBay is very disheartening & I also have loads of problems with their Turbo Lister software which is vital for running a shop. Plus it seems like I'm doing more work for smaller results as naming your price on eBay doesn't seem to go well! I've had to close the shop for the last month due to buying 3 faulty laptops in a row & not being able to access the internet as a result. DON'T buy a Lenovo laptop, they may be cheap but there's a reason! Buy HP! So, do I take the plunge and just go for it? eBay is making me unhappy and really isn't my dream!!!

  • Answer:

If this is the way you make your living, do what you think will be best for your business. But I somehow suspect your idea is born out of frustration and anger, and I am not sure if you have thought through the project cool and in detail. Do you have a business plan? How much are 2 k GBP for you? For most businesses that's peanuts, but if you can't afford to loose it, don't invest it unless you are 100% sure your idea will work.

i was going to suggest testing out your website whilst also sticking with ebay, but as it's not really working for you maybe you should drop ebay now and go it alone. i'm sure you'll be fine as long as you do a bit of research into the market. good luck x

What are You waiting for? I've been thinking about getting into the webby business too. I I guess you got to love it with all of its ups and downs or it slips away. I see your problem and I think to have a good business you have to have friends that support your business. They order from you, they bring the products back when they need an upgrade, or a replacement and get it from you. Friends of the business being close strengthens a good business. Then outsiders that order from you have gotten the news from your friends and are more likely to be cash customers. I think making contacts in other cities and going to business meetings to make new ones really helps get into the solid business settings. Have you seen, "The Apprentice?" Have you read that book, "Why we want you to be Rich"? Me! I am still working on ASP.NET .NET 2.0 and studying how to set up a home Server so I can host my web page. Then I can keep track of the traffic without having to rely on some other host to do it for me.

If you don't try and go for it, are you going to resent ebay more and yourself for not trying? Yes you will have to invest, but there is nothing stopping you from keeping the ebay side of the business. However beware of setting up a fabulous website and not having any visitors - its not just about having a website, it is about advertising your business and getting traffic to buy on your website (this is where having listings on ebay can actually get you further up the search engines - I am not an expert but it works for my business). Also you can still get problems with buyers on your own site and people will always look for a bargain. If you are looking to buy a house and are stretching yourself too thinly then perhaps do some more research into your new business and wait until the time is really right for you. The only person who can really answer this question is you.

Well, you could try and get your website up and running, keeping Ebay going until your own sales are sufficeint for you. I would suggest some internet marketing training to ensure that your site attracts the customers it needs as many sites fail to do this. Best of luck!

Try running both initially. That way you can wind down ebay while improving your new business. That way you can keep some income coming in. You can also use ebay to advertise - provide a link to your new website on ebay (I assume that is allowed) and people will start to come direct to you.

Hi! You can always make some good money working on the net. But the most important factor is that you find a source that really helps you. It's totally worthless trying anything anywhere. Cause you need to pay them. And according to me 87% of on line moneymaking schemes are fraud. Why do I need to pay when there are so many free offers around? Cause: Free Turns Out To Be Fraud. That's what I have learned in 5 years of my work on online marketing and money generation. ASK ME WHY? Cause no fool will ever let you know the real secrets without cutting a profit for him. When you come across free money making sites they are DAMN SLOW. You never make enough.Take it for granted I have tried more than a dozen of them, with a lot of hope and dreams. You just let someone spam your email with ads and surveys.Install toolbars, get your screen hijecked. Do referral with the hope that someday you will see profit and what do you come across? NOTHING 'WORTH'.WORTH your time and effort that you put on this methods.Although free sounds fascinating reality is bitter. I am not any master but I know what I am talking about. I am right now working with such a site that I needed to pay to sign up.Its true that I don't earn as much they show on their site but atleast their methods are not fake. It makes money, I made $149 in my first month with my worst effort.I am still learning. I know I will make higher.Truth is this sites are not money making packages they are just a THROUGH. They can tell you how to but can't make you any.You will have to swim yourself. But your work dose pays out. They will charge you an initial fees because they will provide you with MATERIAL, MEANS AND METHODS of making some decent money to "SATISFACTION".They will assist you in every manner. They will provide you online support to your queries- which you never get in the free ones. This cost them maintenance. What you pay is simply nothing in comparison to what you will get in return. I would suggest you to give it a try. What you pay is Completely Refundable--NOTHING TO LOOSE. just check out and ask yourself, did you know this before! It's real independence. I hope It will work for you cause it works for me.I Hope you succeed. Click on my avatar and go to my profile where you will find a link as 'make money online' in the "about me" section.Right click on it and choose 'open in new window' option from the menu. Then you won't get diverted from your login. It will guide you to your required page. Best Of Luck

eBay is a conduit. You are selling your widgets on eBay, to people looking for Widgets. If you go off eBay, you will spend money on a website, probably a great website. How will your customers find you then? People who are looking on eBay will buy on eBay, and you won't be there. I see this every day, people who have a great idea, a great product, they spend thousands on a website & wonder why they have 6 visitors in a month & no sales. A new website is useless unless you have a way to get customers to visit it. eBay has given you sales because people visit it. Unless you have $$$ for marketing your site, stick with eBay
