How to start a food business?

How can I start a food business?

  • I was thinking of doing like a stand at a market or something, selling soups - mostly vegan/vegetarian, salsa's and dips, chips and pita like flatbread, and who knows some other little items like hummus - all home made for a family business to do with my son as part of his homeschooling. But how could I go about doing this? Are there certain laws and regulations about selling / preparing food items for stuff like this? Where would we start?

    In all states of the US that I know you would first need a certified kitchen... and home kitchens are not likely to be certified.

You need to find a vendor cart or stand. Go to ur Health Department and find out the requirments. Register ur business name, Get a tax i.d., find out a distrubtor or if u planning to do it from home u have to check back with the health dept. I can go on and on, but the best thing to do is get with ur city officials and find out the steps to getting a business idea. After this process ur good to go!
