The best way is to encourage your present customers to provide endorsements to their friends. Nothing is better than a recommendation by word-of-mouth to another... better than any advertising you can put in print or on the air.

place a sticker or logo on your car, always have books with you, pass them out at church, nail shop, hair salon, bank and talk to people get your name out there.

Treat your current customers better than they expect. Customer service is a lost art, and people really appreciate it when you make the extra effort for them. Do you already send them birthday cards with free samples of items that you think they might enjoy? Have you suggested small items they might buy to wrap and keep for that "emergency present needed" situation? Are you selling to husbands and teen-age children who need help picking out presents? If you are, then your customers are probably already telling their friends and neighbors what a great Avon representative you are. So take it to the next level. Let your customers sell for you -- tell them that you'll give them a discount on THEIR order if they'll show your books to their relatives, friends, co-workers, or co-students. Have professional-looking (make them yourself on your computer) labels with your name & phone number to stick on the back of the books. Wear your Avon jewelry prominently ( and make sure you look SMASHING ) anytime you go ANYWHERE -- and carry business cards to hand out if someone should ask. In fact, I've used my business cards as scrap paper to give someone any type of miscellaneous information -- it's still MY business card going into THEIR pocket. Use your imagination. Be creative. Be classy. And look at every situation through the eyes of your customers (and potential customers). Best of luck from a former Avon Rep. :)

I think one way to increase your customer base is to have parties. You can have your current customers invite one friend or two, and show some of your products. You should have a party at least once a month and try to show the best sellers or new lines. You can even show seasonal items and so on. I place orders with a co-worker from my job because during the holiday (Christmas), she gave me a small bottle of moisture therapy lotion. I loved that lotion, it really worked, and now I buy it all the time. I think if customers really like the product, they will buy it from any representative. Try a party and see how that works! You can have fun, while building your clientele!

I had an Avon lady for years who even followed me when I moved to a new district! She was the best! She came by once a month and always brought me all the new and exciting products they had to show me. She always stayed for coffee and I looked forward to seeing all her new goodies. She always remembered mine and my daughters birthdays, she basically watched them grow up. She would always have a tiny little gift for our birthdays that was so appreciated because of the thought. She always asked me for referrals as well, sometimes she gave me extra catalogs and asked me to pass them out to my friends and family....kind of like a silent party because I would phone my people and say "Joan just showed me.....and it was so cool!......would you like one too?" She always had huge orders from me. I probably should have sold it myself but I was too busy with my own home business, so a bunch of us ladies who had businesses started kind of a barter system, trading goods and services with each other. Everyone was a winner!

There are some excellent points made here! I am a Southern Living At HOME consultant and I've made up flyers before and put them in peoples doors and newspaper boxes. (Keep them out of the mailbox!) Offer your current customers a discount for a referal. Have an open house. May customer care cards & have your customer complete it. Ask for her contact info., birthday, anniversary and other important dates, special person contact info. Also ask for a wish list. When you see a birthday or anniversary coming up, contact her hubby/significant other, contact the special person and say "Hi John! Jane is one of my special customers. I know her birthday is coming and she has this special lotion on her wishlist. If your interested I can order it for you and have it wrapped and ready to pick up on July 5th." MEN LOVE HELP!!! Let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me through my website: http://www.SouthernLivingAtHome.com/TriciaZeis

Avon's big thing is the power of 3. Talk to 3 people EVERY DAY about Avon. Make sure you get names and numbers to follow up with them. All of these other ideas are great also.
