What should go in my resume?
-
Hi! I'm a teenager, and I'm applying for a job as a clerk in a little clothing store. I haven't ever worked on anything like this before, but i have done babysitting and refereeing (soccer games). should i mention that in my resume? what SHOULD i mention in my resume?

Answer:
Don't actually list babysitting or refereeing as job experiences, but turn them into qualities that sound persuasive. Like with babysitting, you can say that you have a lot of patience and excellent communication skills. Stuff like that..since it's your first job, you'll really need to sell your personality as opposed to selling past job experiences (had you been previously employed). What you can also do is list the people you babysat/refereed for as references. Come to think of it, babysitting could be something you could add to your resume if you want, since being responsible for a person's child is kind of a big one. Also, if you're still in high school list any extra curricular activities that you are involved in..also list any volunteer work that you've done. That could really help. Hope this helps!

You should muster up every paying 'job' you've ever done. If you got paid for babysitting, and refereeing, you should most definitely add that. And you could use the people you were babysitting for and the soccer coach? Or something as references.

Try looking at the resume templates on word. They set up the resume and you just plug your info in!

Do you really need a resume for this position? If so, just put all your jobs, and all the activities you've done at school.

Sure but your resume is never complete without a complete pack of lies. The 2 years you spent studying in Tibet, the summer you spent trekking over the Alps, your research work on the indigionous monkeys of Borneo, the accelerated courses you completed at Harvard Business School, etc. Make sure the reader knows that even though you're only 17 you've got 30 years of experience. It ALWAYS works sometimes.

You can mention the soccer thing in your activities and if you havent really worked before try to write a little bit more in your Objectives and try to extend what you write in your education section. Try to write as many awards and activities that you have done.
