  • Answer:

You need to find the Small Business Development Center or similar group for YOUR state. For example, this is the one for Delaware: http://www.dsbtdc.org/ They tell you who to contact, how to do it, what you need, all that type of thing.

You're going to need some money to get your business off the ground. Even if you plan to start on a shoestring, you still need a minimum amount of financial backing to get going. Where can you get that start-up capital? If you currently have a job, you could put a small amount away into a savings account every month. Maybe you could borrow some from a good friend or family member, with the understanding that you'll repay the loan once you start to make some income. Make sure the lenders understand the risks.

First you'll need to do a written business plan before anyone will talk to you about financing. And you'll need to have a significant amount of your own money to put into the business, maybe 20% or more of the total you need.
