Can a foreigner start a business in US?

  • Actually i don't really care where to start my business, i am planning on opening my own company and brand that i'd like to be silent about for now. My whole business idea is directed at producing electronic equipment, but how can a foreigner open a business in US without yet being permitted to work there? I don't have a green card and neither want one, i know that if you go to for instance to Germany you get a permit to stay there while you run your own company there. I am not planning on opening or expanding a branch in the States i am planning on establishing main company there. Any info from people who work with law is appreciated, Thank you.

  • Answer:

You can get a visa if you are planning to invest large sums of money or will start a business that will employ over ten or so people (the exact number escapes me). So it's quite possible for a foreigner to start a business in the US, but they need to be able to spend lot of money to qualify for the visa that allows them to do it. I advise you look up all the ways to get a visa and the details at the website of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services: http://www.uscis.gov/
