What is a product concept?

What are essential elements to writing a good product concept? ?

I need to write this product concept for a school project. I have been going through atleast 10 marketing books, but all they really tell me that it is a detailed description of the product idea. Any help is welcome (VERY WELCOME!) what needs to be in this concept, what def. NOT needs to be in there? Thanks..
Answer:

Put yourself in the shoes of someone reading your concept. They want to know what it looks like and what it does. They want to know what benefits it provides to the user that he/she can't get elsewhere. They want to know what products it will compete against. For each competitive product they want to know the advantages/disadvantages of your product. Hope this helps Jerry-the-bookkeeper
