Can I refund my ebay fees?

I sold an item on eBay, but the buyer wants a refund. I am not a shop, just a part time seller?

  • I would be willing to refund as she has offered to pay the return postage, but I will lose out on my eBay and PayPal fees! If I don't refund, she may leave me bad feedback. The item isn't faulty, she's just changed her mind. What should I say to her?

  • Answer:

If she's simply changed her mind, you have absolute rights to refuse the return.. Be pleasant about in your email exchanges & you should be fine. An auction doesn't have the same consumer privileges applied to it as a retail item. (unless you specified a return policy) However, if you do want to go through with the refund you can get your fees refunded through both Paypal & eBay. In Paypal, if you 'refund' the payment (as opposed to making another separate transaction), the fees will be reversed. In eBay, open an 'unpaid item dispute' - there is an option there for when the seller has agreed to take the goods back from the buyer. The eBay fees will also be reversed after this process takes place.

i no that if the item matches the description that you gave and is not faulty there is no legal right to refund that is up to you .it happened to my son .he refunded and it took them 3 wks to return it and it was damaged .and they still gave him bad feedback .he did get in touch with ebay and after they checked they found that is what this person was doing so they removed the bad feed back and removed them from ebay so keep all your emails from her in case you need to do the same .there is a help line you can phone to ask them your position

Depends if the fees were excessive. That's your call. If it's only a few pounds then I'd give her the refund for the sake of your feedback. If it's over £10 I'd ask her to pay those as well. If she refuses then I'd not give her the refund. You need to be careful though. Did you send it recorded? If so she had to sign for it, if not she could lie and say she never received it. I've had that done to me before. She will get the full money back and not have to pay anything to you.

Ebay will refund fees for a genuine refund situation where you have had your time wasted by the buyer. I don't know what Pay Pal fees you mean... It is basically your call, yes she might leave you negative feedback but you can make a comment in response to explain to other people who want to buy from you.

She cant do that just because she changed her mind, she paid by pay pal and confirmed her wish to buy so you dont have to refund her unless she is willing to accept paying for your charges as well. Good luck what a pain!! x

Did you specify in your auction a return policy? If you said no returns then her bad.

Not cope with such a buyer, the best point to her preferences, of course, you can sue her on Ebay malicious Return, Ebay and PAYPAL and then apply for a refund of your fees.

Hi, If your buyer opens a dispute with paypal & claims item not as described then paypal will force you to refund, btw: stating no returns, as is etc is over ruled by ebay & paypal.

if you stated a no return policy and she simply changed her mind then tell her politely to get stu**ed
