How can a small business get more customers to do online reviews?

So, I am talking about yelp or other sites like that. I am trying to help someone get their carpet cleaning business going. I have noticed that some businesses include incentives for people to post on yelp. I am wondering if that is considered shady, cuz then you are giving a discount in exchange for a good review. So, do you think it is a good idea to offer a discount to encourage customers to submit reviews? What other ways could you encourage customers to do online reviews? (or any other suggestions to get your business to come up on google or yahoo searches.)
