Starting a small mowing business in my neighborhood?

Teen starting a business, little capital?

  • Is it a good idea for a teen to start a business with little capital? I am 18 in high school, and I can't get a job. I've always wanted to get into business, but my parents told me I should wait till after I graduated college, and have worked several after years first. I have recently found out quite a few teens have start several business(Farrah Grey and a few others). I only have about $300 of capital, so far what I've come up with is Lawn Mowing(I live in Florida and by the end of February its time to mow again), find a place to host a Flea Market(I've been trying to find business with lots of land, but so far all I got was laughed at over the phone). Collecting scrap metal and selling it(I've been trying this one as well, I've posted flyers and craiglist ad, but no scrap has turned up) and thats what I have come up with so far, I am thinking about doing the lawn care one, but does anyone know a business I could start for really cheap?

You should follow your dreams. I personally know 2 guys who started a sign spinning business at the age of 17 out of San Diego with $100. They went from business to business asking if they could advertise for them, and one company finally said yes. Today, they are 25 and 26 and the CEO and COO of Aarrow Advertising. This is a global business today, they did a commercial for Ford, advertisements for McDonalds and many more huge companies. These are the 2 happiest guys I know, they wake up every morning immersed in their dream and are millioinaires. When they started, everyone laughed at them and did not take them seriously. Today, nobody is laughing. I always did what society wanted me to do up until recently. My parents wanted me to go to school, get an engineering degree and find a nice, safe and secure 8-5 desk job that I could work at until I am 65 and retire. I did everything they said and about 1 1/2 years into my careers a mechanical engineer, I realized everyone was happy but me. I was making good money and my parents were pleased, my girlfriends parents were please and my girlfriend was pleased. One day the paychecks started bouncing and I had no control, and I couldn't find another engineering job despite applying at over 100 places. After realizing that engineering didn't make me happy, I decided to try something I always wanted to do, start an online business. I checked my website today, and it is 1 position away from being on page 1 for our search terms! I am about 1 1/2 years into starting this business and it's finally taking off. Last night my girlfriend and I got in a fight over it, this is what I want and nobody can my dream away from me. If it doesn't work out, I can always go back to being an engineer; but I may never have this chance again!

Sometimes parents have good advice your not in this case. Providing your not taking too much time away from your studies as that should be your number one priority since school is expensive and important you shoud start a busines. College can be the best time to start a business. Colleges and college towns are a huge market of people your age with your interests. When else will you have access to such a huge market. Maybe do a takeout taxi type business where you dleiver food, cigarettes, etc to a bunch of stoned or drunk kids who are too lazy to go out shopping for their stuff late. You coudl also take notes in classes and sell them to other studentswho dont go to class since most colleges attentance isnt reuqired and lots of people dont go. You should go and why not make a buck for going since your already taking notes anyway, just copy your notes and sell them for like 5 bucks pers week to each student or something like that. Lawnmowing is a good idea. I started a lanwmowing business driving my mower around in the trunk of my car, eventually I got a truck, enclosed trailer and turned it into a real business with 50 plus weekly accounts plus the occasional spring/fall cleanup, bush trimming, mulch jobs, etc. My new hustle is buying storage units at auction and reselling the stuff however ever since these stupid tv shows came on a bunch of idiods are showing up at auctions raising the prices of units to where you can make money reselling. Recently I saw a guy pay $900 for a unit with 4 used matttreses in them. REALLY, your going to make $250 per used mattress? Give me a break

Stick with the lawn care service.... your starting capital should be enough to find the core gadgets you need: Lawn mower, rake, leaf blower and assorted other gardening tools. Take some community college classes in the following: small engine repair (that lawn mower will break down and besides... somebody that knows how to fix one just found another source of income). Landscaping and other gardening related classes. Besides that you need to check into a license or at least give your Business a name. Go to the County Clerk and file a Fictitious Business Name. This way you have done the minimum necessary to start your business. Good Luck.... Florida is a great place to start a lawn care business but make sure you teach yourself all there is to know about caring for a lawn. There is more to it than just mowing the grass and when you can offer more services than just that.... you can charge more money.
