How to start selling my art?

I want to start selling my art, how should I do this???!?!?

• I am 18 and am at a point that i have to pay for everything on my own due to my parents financial situation, but my part time job does not suffice with all my payments i have to make so I am looking to make some extra money. I am pretty good at art, I like to think I know more about art than the average person.the best in my drawing class in college. Everybody is always telling me I should go to college for art or they already think I do considering how good they think my work is. But enough with the bragging bullshit what I want to know is how I should go about getting my work out on the market and sell it. I am good at realism so doing portraits of famous people and all that is something I could definitely do very well. Are there web sites I should post my work on?maybe make a facebook page for my art? Should I take some of my stuff to a shop that sells art and see if they can put my stuff up in there store?start my own web site and sell my art off there? any ideas about the best way I can make profit off of this???

  Jake, I recommend that you approach art galleries that sell your type of art and see if they would be interested in selling your art on consignment. In addition, you can get independent feedback on how good your artwork really is. Currently, your feedback is from friends who are not always honest. I do not recommend online because you would need to spend some money to get your artwork online such as professional photography. In addition, you do probably don't know yet who is your target customer and what your art is worth for which you need to know in order to know where to post your art online. An art gallery showing can help you determine your target customer and pricing. Hope this helps.
