Ebay seller insist that tracking number is mine but it is not. am i being scammed?
-
i asked the seller to give me the tracking number after a week of purchase. the seller gave it to me then all was well until i checked the track number a couple of days ago and the status said it was delivered somewhere in Tennessee. i live in California. i sent the seller an other message saying that it was delivered somewhere else and that i think they gave me an other persons tracking number. the seller replayed insisting that they called usps and the item is still on its way and that that tracking number is mine. am i being scammed? i feel like they just sent me someone else's tracking number so that it seems like they sent my item? what should i do? wait and see if my item will arrive? if they dont provide a tracking number for my item can i assume that they never sent my item? thanks!!!

Answer:
If you payed by paypal, I recommend that you file a transaction dispute on paypal's website asap. This way, paypal will lock the sellers account, preventing him from extracting currency (if he has not done so already). The seller is forced to provide a convincing tracking number, but if he doesn't, you get your money back. Theres no harm to you in filing the dispute. I once payed for a $1200 laptop on paypal (actually price seemed too good) and I asked him for a tracking number 2 days after paying. The info on the tracking number said the package weighed under 1 pound, but the laptop should've weighed 5 pounds alone! So, I filed the dispute immediately without consulting with seller (just to not let him know i'm suspicious of him), and got my money back 1-2 weeks later when he was in the wrong. Theres also this one time when I bought a small item (didn't need tracking number) from someone from another country and it was 2 weeks already, but it didn't arrive. I filed a dispute, and seller says its a little late due to shipping distance. It arrived a few days later, so I canceled the dispute. What I'm trying to say is if theres anything fishy, just file a transaction dispute. Just make sure you provide a reason for concern so seller understands.

If you think you are getting scammed then you probably are. Go with your gut.

You can track this yourself but it is easier to tell Ebay and let them do it. They know how, you need to figure it out step by step.
