    If you want to start a business blog, it is best to host your own. You can go to http://www.wordpress.org and download the free blog software, then ftp it to your own website. If you don't already own your domain, www.godaddy.com has good prices and decent service. If you are just starting a personal blog, you can choose from anyone of the free services available. Just look for the options that are most important to you-- lots of theme/skin options, the ability to check stats, the ability to add AdSense code, etc. Some of the options with good features are www.wordpress.com, www.blogger.com, and www.typepad.com. The reason you don't usually want to use the free services for a business website is that you'll usually end up with a url that includes the name of free blog site (e.g. ericsbusiness.blogspot.com). This is not as professional as ericsbusiness.com. Also, the hosting company usually reserves the right to take down blogs for various reasons. You don't want to wake up one morning and find your entire blog gone! Good luck-
