Working as a store associate?

How safe is it working in a convenience store at night?

  • I have an interview at a convenience store next week for the overnight position. The name of the convenience store is Fiest Mart. It's a fairly nice convenience store. I'd be working alone overnights. I was wondering how safe it was. I'm worried about getting robbed and dealing with drunks. I'm a 21 year old female so I'm kinda worried about working overnights but I'm not much of a people person and I'd really enjoy the job. What are the risks and is it worth it?

  • Answer:

hello, after the third time my sister had a gun put into her face she quit. i took a job at one where there was two murders a year or less prior, i did not stay long! are there cameras visible to the customers? is there police patrol or even cops who stop in for coffee? what is the reputation of the store, has it been robbed before? if so how many times? has anyone been shot while being robbed there? drunks are a hole other bag. do you really want to deal with filthy, slobbering, fowl mouthed drunks? smokes and alcohol are the number one sellers in convenient stores a sad fact. if this store is in a part of town where there is a mill or other graveyard customers they get pretty protective of there routine stops and who works there. though this does not stop robbers. ask how much money is in the till at night. find out if the safe is behind the cash register so you can drop large bills immediately instead of having the customer seeing you put it in the till. this prevents robing, maybe? lots of information you need before excepting such a job. it is your life and worth a lot more then a minimum wage job. good luck and ask around about the store. do not find out the store has a bad reputation after you take the job.

I think that would be a terrible risk for you. If you need a job overnight, consider going to a hotel instead and working their desk overnight. Most hotels run three shifts, 7am-3pm, 3-11, 11-7.

Well, I prefer you do not do it alone. I have a feeling that you may run into risk.

Just give him the money, then when he has his back turned shoot him in the legs then take his gun and call the cops and laugh in his face. but if you dont wanna do that, give him the money and nothing will go wrong.

it really depends on the location.... we run (family) many convenient store all around ohio and pa it is kinda risky nowadays but you can always make sure how it is by going to the store as a costumer and checking it out your self and i would recomend that you work day shifts bucause it really does get nasty at night time "drunk people, crackheads, and many other crazy stuff

Girl, Well before you start any night shift at any store you need to ask some very specific questions of your employer. Such as how may robberies have they had in last year ad how many where based on the occupation you chose. think any offer through. I know a girl that is a manager and she makes good money. but she has had to deal with the crap. If you get held up, explain to them that they can access each job on line for us it will be covert. meaning that it will pick up the best signal for us all so let him do that

aisys_celticknight

Make no mistake, it could be risky. Check the history of the store - has there been any history of robbery in that area? If you take the job, keep your mobile phone on you, if theres no close access to a phone there.

it will pay the bills. you can always call the police for people loitering outside the store.

Personally I wouldn't do it. I used to work overnight shifts at a grocery store and you deal with A LOT of drunks on weekends. I was never scared but I was also never alone.

I don't think they have a bad rap for nothing. I wouldn't let my kid work at one at night! Find something else.
