I'm looking for a small local business idea, possibly shop-based which I can manage on top of my full time job
-
I have a full time job with a fair amount of spare time during the day. I'm looking for a second income. I'd be happy with a couple of hundred pounds per week profit in the first year and I am willing to borrow £10-£20k if need be to get started, I'm willing to take the risk; I've got nothing to lose. I'm a man in my mid twentys, still live at home and have got a fairly well paid job during the day. I live in quite a well-off town/village 10 miles from Glasgow, Scotland. Some examples I have come up with myself have been a sandwich/food shop, a hair salon or something similar, and have someone else run it or just work in it. I have no experience in these businesses. I'm still at the brain-storming stage and need some good ideas.

Good question. And good thinking. The first think actually will be to have a look around and speak to professionals in the area where you want to start up your business. For example, if you think about hairdresser saloon take a partner who actually a hairdresser him/herself and check your area for an existed hair-saloons. Coffee shop is better than sandwich shop, especially near schools with nursery (lots of Mums spend time while little ones on the part time. kids friendly coffee shops are very good place to see some friends ext.) You can take a part with some courier company ( again, look for some one with an experience in your own local area). ALWAYS look for advice before spending 1 single penny. We started business 3 years ago and now it is full time job for my husband and myself. Good Luck!

I own a 24 hour key card health club. The best part about it is all the members get in with a key phob. You can open one for very Little and it would take you about 3 months to be come profitable.

What service does your village need? Hair salon would be a large investment but beauticians would rent space from a visible and upscale shop. Is a sandwich shop needed? I have seen a couple business go out - both were candy shops, which only seem to go well in touristy areas - like fudge is somehow tied to historical sites??? Knife sharpening. You could do it yourself and run a pick up and delivery service saving you store front rental.

Well - that is excellent that you do research First. You'll be taking on a lot of responsibility if you 'open a shop' Rent , salary, taxes, hydro, etc... don't care if you have no customers in the first year. (bank interest, i forgot) Consider a web based business to create passive income for Life! You get your time to do what you choose. (not get quick rich or scam) Drop me a wee note by email and I'll be glad to send along a great Link.

You have to see what times of the day you are free and see what type ofoptions are there in tha t time slot. like it don't seems good idea to do barber shop at part time becouse you will be investing for a ful time bussiness which obviously you will not be able to do with the current job think of ur intrest of skills

My friend opened a coffee shop with a kiddies play area in it. The Mums had coffee while the kiddies (age 1 1/2 to about 8) played on the equipment. She has two helpers to supervise the kids and lots of toys and play equipment with bright murals on the wall. She also does kiddies birthday parties and charges per head (closing it to the public at that time). You could have two or three cakes/scones fpr the Mums and tea and coffee and soft drinks for the kids in the coffee shop and outsource the birthdauy cakes for the parties. You probably should go into bnusiness with a woman for this one. Otherwise a doggie parlour depending how many others there are in your town?

The health and wellness industry is THE fastest growing industry. Have you ever heard of the Mangosteen fruit? It has been used for centuries in SE Asia where it grows, and is now available as a delicious nutritional fruit juice. I have been with this debt free,Patented, Catagory Created, company and have never felt better or had as much excitement about a product as this. The product....only 1 product.......is truly helping thousands of people with it's anti-inflammatory,anti-oxident, anti-fungal properties to become pain free and prescription drug free. It will not cost a lot to get up andrunning with this business but the rewards are abundant from this extremely ethical company. Also you do not require the overheads of a 'conventional' business as most of the information about the company and the mangosteen is on the internet, for your use. http://www.mangosteen101.co.uk

Wish I had what you already have, I'm now retired but when working the target was to earn £4-00m per day and most days it didn't happen. I would have been more than happy with £200-00 per week................
