  • Answer:

First, you must have a written agreement with your friends, including a buy-sell agreement that will spell out what happens if one partner wants out or if you want to kick out one partner. Best friends can turn bitter enemies quickly when they run a business together, and it is never a wise idea to do business without making it clear what all your responsibilities are and what happens if one does not fulfill their obligations You may start by reading the article "Starting a Clothing Line or Apparel Manufacturing Business" http://www.powerhomebiz.com/vol66/clothing.htm . The article contains information on the startup steps, knowing your market, how to enter the market, the question of production and financing the business For in-depth information, you may want to read the following books (borrow from your library or buy from your favorite bookstore) The Official Step by Step Guide to Starting a Clothing Line Start Your Own Clothing Store (Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Up) The Business of Fashion: Designing Manufacturing, and Marketing The World of Fashion Merchandising So You Want to Work in the Fashion Business? She is the author of the book "The Entrepreneur's Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing" and her blog is full of answers to questions on how to start a clothing line As for manufacturing sources, I suggest you check out the manufacturers listed in the National Association of Manufacturers http://www.nam.org/s_nam/index.asp

NO FASHION DEGREE, NO RICH FAMILY MEMBER, LIMITED FUNDS. A $1,500 investment into a $12,000 a month apparel business in 5 years. FOR SOME IT MAY NOT BE MUCH BUT FOR ME IT HAS BEEN A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE AS I AM NOW SELF EMPLOYED. IT IS NOT EASY BUT I DO IT FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. MY ADVISE, BE PATIENT, DEDICATED AND ADVERTISE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. THERE IS NO SECRET TO FASHION. EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT WAY OF DRESSING SO, WHAT MAKES A PERSON BUY YOUR APPAREL? BRAND RECOGNITION. IF YOU SEE MY CLOTHING LINE SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK YOU ARE SURE TO BUY. IT TAKES THE AVERAGE PERSON 7 TIMES TO SEE AN AD OR WEBSITE BEFORE THEY BUY. IF YOU PROVIDE QUALITY APPAREL AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY WILL CONTINUE TO BUY. AND YES YOU CAN START A CLOTHING LINE WITH $1500.00! O.K. Here it goes. My two cents. Just a few things to keep in mind. First you need to know how much is the cost per unit? $3-$5.00 a unit??? does it include hang tags, company label, price tags, bar code and polybag. Will it be shipped all together or will it be boxed by style, size or combination of both. Then you need to add your shipping cost. the cost manufacturing company will charge to ship items to you. Freight or airway?? (FOB) airway is more expensive but you will get your items quicker. Then there is customs duty. Depends on the fabric and customs code. Usually $16.5% of the invoice. but can go up to 19% depending on the country you are importing from. If you are ordering more than $2,000 you will also, need a broker as customs will not release your items without an entry on invoices more than $2000 and a broker will provide the customs entry forms as well as making sure your order is released from customs. So, you will need to add $150-$200 for brokers fees. See http://www.cbp.gov for details. Then you will have to add expenses.... Cost of internet service if you are selling on line. Cost of electricity, etc...etc... (Cost of running your company) Cost of storage if any. Payroll (paying employees if any or paying yourself) You get the picture. I hope that this has helped. If you have any questions we are happy to help as we were exactly were you are now 5 years ago. We can also help with all your manufacturing needs. Put everything in writing and Get this ratified legally. Define how the business will be structured and also how it will be broken up if sold. Determine the liability of each person if the business falls and what the outcomes will be. There are no best friends in business , only business partners. This is not a social venture , it will fail and stuff up your friendships if you run it like one. More friendships have turned nasty over business dealings than you could ever imagine. If everyone knows where they stand in relation to everyone else you will minimize the issues. You cannot all be in charge, it is not feasible so responsibility has to be delegated with a clear cut final decision maker in the process. With the structure of the company in place you then can go and start taking your product to the market place. Make some samples of your product and take them around to shops that fit your profile , meet with buyers and also get some marketing done by a marketing firm on customer acceptance. then take it from there...

You need 2 4*4's, and some twine. Put the wood in the ground about a foot. They should be like 12 feet apart. Nail the cord to each end. Hang your wash. You and your friends should enjoy your cloathing line until the next tornado. Enjoy the tralier park sis.
