Any info on alpaca/camel bone jewelry?

a bit bizzar, but has anyone here ever heard of jewelry being made out of alpaca or camel bone? i am trying to find some kind of either feather, wing or angel pendant or charm online to make my own necklace as i cant find one ready made that i like, but i dont want to spend loads (skint) but also want it to be something special as its to represent my angel baby, long story short, most charms etc look really cheap and not very special, but i have found some alpaca/camel bone earrings (would remove the hook and use it as a pendant) they are very striking looking and certainly something special but i can not find any info online about wearing bone for jewelry, for example, is it crule? (feel a bit reluctant for this reason) is it safe? cant help but wonder what diseases bones could carry! not sure if my worry is a bit extream though? and also how fragile is it? as i plan on wearing it 24/7 not just once in a while... any info would be fab if anyone has any better idea... i am a bit stumped!!
