Sub cut infusions. Any nurses out there who have any policies /procedure?
-
I am attempting to present a policy and procedure relating to subcutaneous fluid infusion. I know that the procedure is rare so I am unable to dig up any information. Any ideas? Thankyou in advance.

Answer:
hey. I work for a hospice, we give sub-q infusions mostly for PCA pain management pumps, we use a 22g INT butterfly, change the site every 7 days, monitor the site for redness/swelling/pain. we cannot infuse at a rate greater than 5mL per hr (though if we have a pt that requires more meds, our pharmacy makes a 8:1 solution) and otherwise, we treat the site as you would an IV line.
