What are the symptoms of cancer?

What else can I do? I have alot of symptoms of advanced cancer and cannot get a doctor to take me seriously..?

  • I'm 21 and have been suffering with severe pains in my upper and lower abdomen, back, neck and head. It all started about two weeks ago and happened so suddenly. For a few years prior to this I was having sharp pains in my lower abdomen that I thought was probably just menstrual cramps until it worsened and occured frequently. And then two weeks ago I started bleeding heavily and experiencing severe pains. My period wasn't due for a week and a half and it has never been anywhere near that heavy. I am now suffering with headaches, constant nausceous and needing to be sick, loss of appitite (extremely weird for me!). drowsiness and when I stand up I have to hold onto something because my head spins, my vision blurs and my legs hurt and threaten to give in. I feel tired constantly and don't have the energy to get up and move across the pain.My face is often red for no reason and my fingers have become a reddish purple colour and seem shiny (if that makes any sense??) My vision is blurred in my left eye and I have conjunctivitis in both and they've become painfully sensitive to light. I keep going temporarily deaf for a few moments and my hearing is replaced with a buzzing sound. My joints are painful - particularly my legs and my left arm tingles and feels numb sometimes for no reason. Other symptoms are fever - usually extremely cold chills while my body is really warm to touch, with the exception of my hands and feet, And I am going to the toilet far too much and have diharrea. I have tried to get help as to what this could be but nurses, hospital doctors and nurses, and my own GP have all put it down to a heavy period. A pregnancy test was done and a miscarriage was ruled out and I was given painkillers. Despite my attempts to fully explain my symptoms and concerns to my doctor, he was in a rush and just put the other symptoms down to a tummy bug and bowel infection. I am now having to fight to find someone who will actually listen and put my mind to rest by carrying out the necessary tests. If I wasn't in so much pain and I didn't know my own body and what is normal for me, I probably would do what a lot of people seem to do and just accept the doctor's opinion. Having done so much research into my symptoms and what this could be, and having read so many stories about people who have been in my situation and been told the same thing and felt they had no choice but to leave it until things til they were much worse and it was often too late, I find it extremely difficult to just accept the opinion of someone who refused to listen to my problems and my concerns as to what it could be because the surgery was busy on that day.

  • Answer:

Cancer in the majority of cases refers to a solid tumor or tumors . . if you had a solid mass the doctors would have found it by now . . so you may have 'symptoms' but you don't have the number one major symptom and that is an unidentified lump over 2cm growing anywhere on or in your body. Cancer does not generally have any symptoms at all which is why your doctors are not paying attention to you. However, you definitely have some type of medical condition occurring and do not deserve to be in pain. Find a doctor who you can trust. Tell him what is going on and let HIM do all the testing and diagnosing . . don't you try to tell him you have 'cancer' . . let him do the tests with a clean slate and try to figure out what is going on . . let him do the diagnosing. Good luck.

Ok. Firstly, you don't have symptoms of advanced cancer, so stop panicking. Next, take a piece of paper and write down all your symptoms, starting with the worst/most recurring ones first. Next, phone your surgery in the morning and ask for a "double appointment". The receptionist may ask why, just explain that you have a lot to discuss with the doctor, and need enough time to do this. When you get to the doctor, give him the paper with all your symptoms on it. Give him time to read it fully and ask you questions about it. Tell your doctor your concerns, and how much they are worrying you. If some simple tests would put your mind at rest, the doctor should carry them out for you. If at the end of the appointment you are not happy with his conclusion, ask for a "second opinion". This means that you will see another doctor in the same surgery. Good luck and I hope you feel better very soon.

I work in the emergency room 15 years now and can tell you this. If you go to a Dr office and start in a whiney whiney sing song voice telling all these symptoms, they are going to tune you out and get out of your room as soon as they can. Doctors are people too, and people forget that. Be real. List your symptoms, quickly and sound sincere, get to the point, not beating around the bush. Tell it, get it over with. Shut up, then listen, let them ask you some things. Answer them quickly and then shut up; until they ask something again.

You have WAY Too many symptoms for the doctor to even want to treat you, which is completely sad. What you need is a Teaching Hospital. And only if Dr. Gregory House was real...you'd be in good hands. Don't make them shoo you away...find a teaching hospital who will work with you closely and provide all the tests you need.

i think maybe your dr thinks you are a quack or should i say a hypochondriac. when all else fails go the the Er and have them check you out. be frank and to the point what is hurting you at this moment. you just maybe are doing to much research. and its making you paranoid. i know when i first found out i had cancer, everything i read made it sound like that was the type of cancer i had. stay away from the computer doing research. i had to, it was driving me crazy. well any way go to the Er and tell them what seem to be wrong with you at the present time and quit diagnosing yourself.

you have all the symptoms of septicaemia, the bacteria has most likely gained access to your blood stream via the urinary tract, to the bladder and possibly onto the kidneys. this could account for the blood loss and abdo pains. a simple blood test (known as blood cultures) would confirm diagnosis. call an ambulance and get into hospital asap.
