What is a bone scan?

Pain in lower left-hand, rear Quadrant intensified with recent bone scan, what could be the problem?

  • Went to doctor in Feb this year with pain just under the ribs on the left side. CT scan took forever to get, but was completed March 31st. Kidney Stone found, but was informed that this is too small to cause pain. Sent to have Chest X-ray and bone scan procedure done. Tuesday April 28th Bone scan and X-ray completed. I understand that the dye from the bone scan isn't suppose to cause any discomfort and is usually out of the body in 24hrs, but my question is why has the pain in my left side increased 10 fold to what it was yesturday? Having trouble being comfortable and slight trouble in taking breaths in. Please help........

  • Answer:

You probably have spasms in your left ureter -- maybe there was a stone and it has passed, but meantime it scratched up your ureter inside and it needs time to heal. OR... there is still a kidney stone that they just haven't seen on the screens. Third -- maybe kidney cyst causing swelling, thus pushing out on kidney capsule... Worst case scenario -- cancer (of colon?). Keep harassing the doctors -- it's their job to find out what's wrong.
