Answer:
Starting your periods before the age of 12 is something that, statistically, slightly increases your risk of breast cancer when older. It doesn't mean that you are at high risk. To take another example- having children later in life or not having them at all is also something that statistically increases the risk of breast cancer. But most women who have late children or never have children don't develop breast cancer. This really isn't something that should be causing you any worry at all. The biggest risk factor for breast cancer is being a female over the age of 50 years. I am one of four sisters. One of my sisters started her periods at nine, one at 10 and the other just after her 11th birthday. I started mine at 11 and a half. We are all now in out 50s and 60s; I am the only one who has developed breast cancer. Oh, and there is no connection between the age your periods start and your age at menopause.

I think there is a possibility that it might but there is no way you can stop it from coming if it does. If you also have a history of breast cancer in your family then I would talk to your doctor about it if you get really worried.

Actually it doesn't, however it does make you hit menopause earlier. If your wanting to prevent breast cancer, lemons have been shown to help decrease the chances (along with a few other citrus foods). Also having children early (like 18-25 range) will bring it down. the human body is acutally not designed to have kids before 16 or after 30, having kids between this gap helps dramaticly decrease chances of breast cancer. (though this is not to encourage just getting knocked up, its just the honest truth). Also genetics plays a huge roll in chances of cancer, if your family is known for it, be prepared to get it, if its not known in your family, you don't have to worry. If you start to worry check for lumbs, they should be noticable.

It is a slight statistical variance. I didn't start menstruation until I was 14 but I still got breast cancer. So did a sister who started at age 11. 2 other sisters who started between those ages are now in their late 60's and have not developed breast cancer as yet.
